NuVal Scores, Doctor Kracker, and Picture Tab Updates!

I updated the “Pictures” tab after borrowing and scanning lots of childhood pictures from my parents. It took me a long time to rummage through them all, but I loved looking back and reminiscing! Check them out if you get a chance!

Dr. Kracker sent me a box of crackers before we left for Chicago, and we finally had the chance to try them with Amish Blueberry Cheddar cheese last night. Yumm!

Doctor Kracker Crackers with Amish Blueberry Cheddar cheese

If you haven’t tried Dr. Kracker crackers, I recommend you do so. They are very hearty and have a richy, nutty/seedy flavor. For some this may come off as a tad bitter, but we really enjoyed them!

Question: Have you tried Doctor Kracker crackers? What did you think of them?

We also unloaded a LOT of wine that we brought back from Illinois. This wine was purchased in Italy, sent to Michigan, driven to Chicago, then to Champaign, Illinois, and now on to Tulsa, Oklahoma. Why, you ask? Alcohol cannot be imported into Oklahoma, so husband’s stash from his Italy days were sent over with our friends. What sports they are, huh!? Can’t wait to try some of those Chiantis!!

Vino from Italia

While I was in Illinois for the holidays, I did take one grocery shopping trip into a Meijer store. To my great pleasure, I found NuVal scores on labels! Thank GOODNESS I had my camera with me, as I started snapping lots of shots! While not all labels and food products contained NuVal scores, a lot did! My husband was a bit embarrassed with my excitement, but he just doesn’t “get it”. If you’re living under a rock and don’t know about NuVal scores, head over to Melissa’s blog and read all about NuVal — the scores may even be in stores near you!

Kraft Light Mayonnaise — NuVal Score: 4
Kraft Light Done Right Zesty Italian — NuVal Score: 8
0% Fage Greek Yogurt — NuVal Score: 94
Horizon Organic Fat-Free Milk — NuVal Score: 91

Check the labels carefully for the hexagonal NuVal symbol — some are colored, some are not.

Question: Have you found NuVal scores in your local grocery store? If yes, where do you shop? If not, have you heard of the NuVal scoring system? Any opinions on the NuVal scoring system?

Those pictures are CLASSIC! I don’t think I would have the guts to post my “awkward” days pictures, but good for you for doing so (I was never heavy, but I was pale and had big teeth and big hair!) I think you are right, it does really help with the story by telling your weight. I didn’t know you had always struggled with your weight..and that puts things into perspective. The picture of you with the balloons in your suit really fooled me at first! I was like, wowzers! Too funny.

Very cool that you saw the Nuval scores, I have yet to see them. I’ll keep my eyes peeled for them, for sure, as they should be in Ohio soon!

I hadn’t heard of the NuVal system; thanks for alerting me to it. I don’t think it’s in any of the grocery stores around here, but it definitely seems to be a step in the right direction.

    And, enjoy the wines!!! ๐Ÿ™‚

No NuVal scores at the commissary here. Whoa thats a lot of wine. We are trying to figure out how to send some out from here and we think maybe the local post office. The post office on base says NO and that it is illegal, so we do not know how to ship the wine. I guess just give it to guests when they come to visit and they can take it home.

  17. January 3, 2010 / 6:18 pm

Omg I got tipsy just looking at all that wine! I so jealous lol

I never heard of that scoring system…I am heading over to her blog to read more =)

  18. January 3, 2010 / 8:19 pm

No NuVal in SC that I’ve found. ๐Ÿ™

Hope it gets here soon! When it does, I will probably be spending hours in the grocery store checking all of the scores out!

  19. January 3, 2010 / 8:32 pm

I haven’t paid attention to the labels to see if they have the NuVal scoring on them or not.

Holly molly that’s a lot of wine.. the important question here is how in the world did they get that many bottles of wine through customs? My husband and I were in France, Holland and Italy this year and only brought back a couple bottles of Wine from France and Italy and beer from Holland.. just a couple from each.

  20. January 3, 2010 / 9:29 pm

Wow! Looks like you have some good times ahead of you with quality wine!

Thanks for the NuVal pics…I’ve been dying to see some! I haven’t seem them around Boston or San Fran. They don’t seem to have them in either place…I’ll keep ya posted if they pop up:)

  21. January 3, 2010 / 10:08 pm

I’ve heard of Nuval, but haven’t seen them around yet. In a way, I’m glad…I’m wary of grading food like that…esp for myself, who once had a really disordered eating past.

I’m LOVING that blueberry Amish cheese by the way!! WHOA!

I bought a box of Doctor Kracker Sunflower Cheddar Flatbreads the last time I was in my favourite organic market in Winnipeg. I came home from work one day and decided to have one with a bit of black pepper goat cheese for a snack. Guess what turned into dinner? That’s right. Soooooooooooo tasty.

Look at all that wine! Friends who will bring cases of wine home for you are friends indeed!

  23. January 4, 2010 / 7:01 pm

yum, aren’t there crackers just delicious?!?!
