I miss the kitchen!

Still nursing my princess back to health…

This week has been such a lame week in the Prevention Kitchen. I normally cook multiple delicious meals throughout the week but with my family’s visit last weekend and our Memorial Day weekend trip to Lincoln, Nebraska this weekend, we have opted out of grocery shopping. And thus, no new recipes have been tried and thus no fun blog posts have been made. Sorry 🙁

My blog traffic looks like this \ — plummeting!

Need…recipes…soon! Miss…cooking…and…real….tasty…healthy…food!

Instead of being über creative (because…I’m not) I gave in to Mr. Prevention’s cravings…

At least it had spinach as a topping…? O:-)

Another note to self: No meal planning for the week leads to unhealthy, non-tasty dinners!

I tried Muscle Milk Light this week after hearing rave reviews from patients — patients like my Lap Banders who have higher protein requirements after surgery. I was really impressed with the product.

Interesting ingredients:

sunflower and/or safflower oil
medium chain trigylcerides (MCT)

I talked a bit about the role of MCT oil in my Coconut Oil: Health Food or Health Fad post. For my post-op patients, I give MCT a huge thumbs up. I also enjoyed seeing the mono and polyunsaturated fatty acid rich oils, sunflower and safflower, on the ingredient list.

Nutrition Stats (per 14 ounces): 160 calories; 4.5 g. fat (1 g. saturated); 340 mg. sodium; 10 g. carbohydrate; 5 g. fiber; 20 g. protein

Cost: $1.50/bottle

Added benefits: Lactose-free

Protein sources: Soy and whey

Taste: Yummmm!!! Muscle Milk Light (Chocolate) was delicious! I really look forward to using this product in the future and recommending it to my patients.

Question: Have you heard of or tried Muscle Milk?

P.S. If you haven’t seen the recently research on refuted benefits of organic produce, check it out!

I really like Muscle Milk Light, too! I usually use powdered protein over the bottled ones, but I agree that it is tasty!

  2. May 27, 2010 / 7:00 am

I haven’t tried it, but I have heard good things!

Don’t worry about the lack of recipes/blog traffic…I think everything kind of slows down in the summer. My traffic has gone down too ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. May 27, 2010 / 7:01 am

We have weeks like that too… where neither of us have any motivation to cook… which results in takeout city ๐Ÿ™

  4. May 27, 2010 / 7:09 am

Eh, a little pizza and a little break from the kitchen is a good thing once in awhile. It can be renewing! I’ve heard of muscle milk, but have never tried it. I’m not a huge fan of those protein shakes.

  5. May 27, 2010 / 7:11 am

Interesting. So, the Muscle Milk is good because the fats are all used for energy? Is this a good way for bariatric patients to get their fat? I had not thought about this. I do love the taste of Muscle Milk, and it’s really a great way to get protein after a hard workout.

Get back in the kitchen girl! But hey, pizza is always a good fall back meal ๐Ÿ™‚ Nothing beats it!

  6. May 27, 2010 / 7:22 am

I’ve never tried it, did you find it filling? I haven’t been cooking either, one of those weeks!!

  7. May 27, 2010 / 8:24 am

I’m in the same place as you. We’re going away this weekend, so we won’t go to the grocery store. My meals have been lame and boring.

I just wrote about that organic study today. (We’re so on the same page.) I just never ate organics because of their antioxidant content or better nutrition. I (try to) eat them because of the pesticide issue.

You have been busy, busy โ€“ donโ€™t apologize for not cooking! Although I do look forward to your yummy recipes. ๐Ÿ™‚

Iโ€™ve heard of Muscle Milk, but never tried it. Iโ€™m not a huge milk drinker, but I think (okay, I KNOW) I would love the chocolate flavor! I will be on the look out for it. Anything chocolate that is good for you is a keeper in my book!

  9. May 27, 2010 / 9:03 am

Wait, wait, wait… are you saying dominoes pizza is non-tasty?!!! I would have to disagree, haha!! ๐Ÿ˜‰ That pizza is making me drool!! ๐Ÿ™‚ Spinach is one of my favorite pizza toppings!!

  10. May 27, 2010 / 9:18 am

HEY GIRL! ahhh i feel like i havent commented in FOREVER ! im still reading tho, for real! i love Muscle milk light! chocolate is my FAV flavor-so good for on the go!

  11. May 27, 2010 / 9:24 am

your blog traffic was probably down because I was gone for so long and I’m a very frequent visitor! ๐Ÿ™‚

I agree with you…when I dont meal plan, we end up eating junk all week. Gotta stay on top of that!

  12. May 27, 2010 / 9:25 am

We had domino’s this week too, and grilled cheese sandwiches last night. Some weeks you just don’t feel like getting in the kitchen, it’s ok!

Lots of cooking coming up this weekend for me though, yay!

  13. May 27, 2010 / 9:29 am

We sell muscle milk at the gym my husband and I work out of but it makes us both sick to our stomachs! Something in it doesn’t work for either of us.

  14. May 27, 2010 / 10:20 am

I’ve been having an ongoing marathon of lame kitchen weeks in my joint. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Have not tried Muscle Milk yet…

  15. May 27, 2010 / 10:26 am

Muscle milk is really new to me, never heard of it till now…and i hope lily gets well soon…

  16. May 27, 2010 / 10:27 am

I love just hearing about you so I still read even without your awesome recipes. And in all honesty, that pizza looks better than many things right now. Gotta love first trimester pregnancy cravings. ๐Ÿ˜€

  17. May 27, 2010 / 10:38 am

Lincoln, NE…. I am from Omaha, NE! Isn’t NE just awesome.

Anyway, you cannot go wrong with Dominos and I am loving that you can now order spinach as a topping.. awesome!

I honestly have only had breakfast in my house the past 2 weeks? yeah ut oh!

  18. May 27, 2010 / 11:14 am

I’m so glad to hear you approve of Muscle Milk Light. I love the chocolate, vanilla and strawberry. I am a little concerned about all the ingredients I cannot pronounce. What are your thoughts? Is this a good post-workout drink for someone like me? I feel like there just may be too many “fake” things in there. Would love to hear your thoughts!!

  19. May 27, 2010 / 11:19 am

I appreciate the link to the organics article… I’ve heard conflicting opinions about the actual nutrition content of organic vs non, but I choose organic mostly for the benefit of no pesticides.

I know some people disagree with going organic, but at the very least, it makes me feel better – even if it’s all mental ๐Ÿ™‚

  20. May 27, 2010 / 11:21 am

I admire how much you do create in the kitchen! Some weeks are just busier than others.

I like Muscle Milk Light. I have the powdered form. It tastes like chocolate milk ๐Ÿ™‚

  21. May 27, 2010 / 11:40 am

I usually hate the taste of those things. I think I got samples once at a conference of those and I gave them to Ryan. I hope Lily is feeling better. Have fun in Lincoln. I went there 1.5 yrs ago because I was accepted to UNL. It was better than I expected. But you live out that way so it may be different for you. I was nervous coming from vegas.

  22. May 27, 2010 / 12:38 pm

Yep, sometimes life gets in the way of cooking! I am sure after the holiday you’ll be back at it!

Hope the pup is getting better – and believe it or not – my kids prefer Domino’s pizza over my homemade! ๐Ÿ™

  23. May 27, 2010 / 1:18 pm

I’ve been super lame in the kitchen lately too, and I’m kind of bummed that I am going on vacation for two weeks and don’t have blog posts scheduled to keep my traffic up! (how lame is that I have a reason to be bummed when I’m going to Greece for two weeks?!) We’ll both get back on track soon ๐Ÿ™‚

  24. May 27, 2010 / 1:37 pm

Ive never tried Muscle Milk, but neighbor girls boyfriend drinks it. I know this because I see it in their recycle bin all the time. I probably shouldnt admit to that, but Im curious. lol

Im still sending Lily love and healing vibes. I hope shes doing better!! Give her a hug for me.

  25. May 27, 2010 / 2:38 pm

Poor Lily she looks so sad ๐Ÿ™

We all have weeks like that it happens.

  26. May 27, 2010 / 3:05 pm

I didn’t know they made muscle milk light. It’s good to know you liked the taste. Once in a blue moon I will have a patient ask me about muscle milk. Good to know the light is a good product.
    have a great weekend!

  27. May 27, 2010 / 3:10 pm

Thanks for the muscle milk review. I normally stay away from those things because some of them taste like chalk but Im sure many of the products have improved over time. Good article too!

  28. May 27, 2010 / 5:36 pm

I LOVE LOVE LOVE LMM! I use it in everything lol…I buy the big tubs =)

  29. May 27, 2010 / 5:37 pm

btw thanks for the Lily picture =)

  30. May 27, 2010 / 5:51 pm

I hope Lily is feeling a lot better. Poor pup! It is very hard when weeks are off our usual routines. Take care of yourself girl! xo

  31. May 27, 2010 / 7:44 pm

I haven’t tried Domino’s pizza since they’ve switched their recipe. I admit, I used to love Domino’s. ๐Ÿ™‚ I’ll have to report back once I get around to trying their new recipe.

Lily makes my heart smile! I hope she is feeling better!

  32. May 27, 2010 / 9:50 pm

I hope Lily is feeling better.

I’ve tried Muscle Milk Light and thought it was yucky. My blog traffic has been way down too.

  33. May 30, 2010 / 4:43 pm

Lilly looks so sad ๐Ÿ™ I’ve tried another brand’s form of muscle milk and it was pretty good. Price though keeps me to cheaper versions of protein.
