O-H-I-O

As a proud graduate of the University of Illinois, it’s hard being in Ohio State’s territory! I hate Ohio State football with a firey passion…but I have to say, they are the most loyal, devoted fans. I don’t even think this state realizes they have 2 NFL teams! 😉

And everywhere you go near to Columbus, be prepared to hear “Hang on Sloopy” on repeat. I’m a fan of the song, but it is everywhere. Cell phone rings. Bar music. Radio. Crazy…

…And then there’s the buckeyes. When my friends who are OSU fans wear a necklace of buckeyes, it’s fun to call them poisonous. And I mean, a poisonous nut as a mascot? C’mon. But to EAT? Heavenly. It’s almost a traditional welcome gift to the Columbus region…

In our hotel room, a basket of OSU mugs and plentiful amounts of buckeyes (not pictured because they were all gone in 5 minutes between the 2 of us) and other candy, coffee, etc.

And Gina got us buckeyes last night!

Thanks, Gina! 🙂

Mr. Prevention and I got to meet up with Gina and Nick last night! This was great because 1) Gina has never had a blogger meet-up before, 2) it was a gorgeous night to sit out on a patio, and 3) we now have friends in Columbus!

Gina and Nick were a blast and I was sad to see the night end. But I have a good feeling there will be more to come 🙂

I have a date with the hotel treadmill and then off for another busy, productive day in Columbus! 😀 I haven’t worked out the past 2 days and I need to stay on track for my 101 Days of Summer challenge to run 70 of the next 101 days!

Question: Have you ever had a buckeye treat? What college team do you root for and what team is your #1 rival?

Go Illini!

I had to google what a buckeye candy was… but they sound delicious!

I’m not a big sports person, despite the fact that my dad was a sportswriter haha. I just end up rooting (read: making sarcastic “whoo” sounds when someone scores :P) for whatever team he does, which is never consistent because he went to Virginia Commonwealth University, which doesn’t have a football team. :O

    Glad you’re having fun! ๐Ÿ™‚

Oh, I LOVE buckeye’s! They are one of my favorites. For those who haven’t tried them, they must, because they are missing out!

I went to Texas A&M University so I therefore hate The University of Texas! haha!

I root for Mizzou all the way! Our biggest rival is Kansas, but we’ve also started a little border war with University of Illinois, too. So I should probably dislike all things U of I, but you seem reasonably nice, so I’m making the exception! ๐Ÿ˜‰

I’ve never really been with a certain team – but I do love watching the games ๐Ÿ˜€

I’ve never had a buckeye but they look/sound awesome!

    Enjoy your weekend!

I’ve never had a buckeye. Not really sure what it is. I’ll have to have my friend bring me some since she is a Buckeye!

Buckeyes are so awesome! The food that is. I almost went to OSU but, thankfully, ended up at the University of Pittsburgh. So I hate Ohio State. I hate Penn State and West Virginia University even more. I’m not at UNC Chapel Hill so I hate Duke, even though I work there ๐Ÿ™‚

I don’t really have a team and the college I went to is not well known for its strong football team (Cal Poly, SLO). Sounds like it was a fun get together with Gina!

I’ve heard some very good things about buckeyes! (I’ve never had them — I’m dying to try them though!) I’m glad you’re having such a wonderful time! ๐Ÿ™‚

That is so awesome that you and Gina go to meet up. It is also always nice to meet up with another RD. I have never had a buckeye. I did get accepted to OSU last year for a PhD program and almost went, but we of course went overseas instead. Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

I’ve heard of buckeye before just from the Mascot, but never tried one. What exactly are they?

  18. June 13, 2010 / 10:57 am

I didn’t know you went to UofI – did you grow up in Illinois? I grew up in a suburb of Chicago. My grandparents live in Ohio and those Buckeyes are so tasty!
