Birthday Re-Cap

Uncategorized

3 Jul

THANK YOU for all the birthday wishes!!! I had a wonderful birthday! It’s funny most of you thought I was older than 25 πŸ˜‰ Most people think I look a lot younger than I am, so I dunno! Just as planned I made pancakes, ran 5 miles, went to the pool and read This Is Where I Leave You, headed out for sushi, and then to fireworks! πŸ˜€

I also became an “official” blogger:

Mr. Prevention, my parents, and Lily went in on a Nikon D3000 for me πŸ˜€ !! And my in-laws got me a Nikon carrying case, “Nikon D3000 for Dummies” (so needed!) and 8G memory cards! My sister-in-law sent some workout clothes, lunch-to-go containers, and wood grilling planks! They’ll make an appearance this week, for sure! Thank you, loved ones! πŸ˜€

I tinkered around with my Nikon this weekend, but I didn’t want to take it to the pool or out to dinner — just too afraid of getting it wet or spilled on!! Kath is always preaching about natural lighting and it is sooooo true. The DSLR takes wonderful pictures so long as you provide the lighting…in the form of sun. Indoor lighting and the flash on the DSLR do not produce quality photos.

This was taken on my Canon Power Shot

The remains of my chocolate chip-coconut pancakes with whipped topping! Too rich!! Indoor lighting…no good!

Canon Power Shot pictures (not so great):

tempura vegetables

Nirvana Roll and Sweet Fried Tofu

And playing around with the DSLR:

“I’m too sexy cute!” Natural lighting = yay!

“Ma, I am trying to get my beauty sleep!”

I have a lot to learn, but it’s been fun!

Thanks again for all the birthday wishes! I look forward to finally catching up with some blogs this weekend! I gave my 2 weeks notice at work yesterday…it was tough! I am not looking forward to telling my patients, one-by-one, that I am leaving πŸ™ But until then…3 full days of weekend left! Happy 4th, everyone!!

Question: Do you like fireworks? Do you set any off yourself?

Wow that is an awesome new camera! & happy belated birthday!!!
Eh, im not a fan of fireworks, boring if you ask me :p
They would be more fun if I were setting them off I suppose. I am such a klutz though I think that would be seriously DANGEROUS!

I have a D3000 and LOVE it! That’s so exciting. It takes a little getting used to when you switch to an SLR, but I highly recommend learning the manual settings…it makes all the difference. Have fun!!

If I didn’t say it, I thought you were older too. πŸ˜‰ Maybe it’s because you have *it* together.

Love the first shot with your camera and also the one with the book. It’s amazing how few things we need to reach nirvana…

I’m so glad you had a great birthday, Nicole! And WOW – what an awesome present!! My sisters both have Nikon DSLRs and LOVE them. Your pictures are wonderful…I definitely have camera envy!

Not to sound like a fuddy-duddy because I LOVE fireworks on the 4th, but my neighbors were setting them off at 11 p.m. WEEKS after the 4th last year….I’m just a girl who likes her sleep! πŸ˜‰

    Have a great 4th!

You have inspired me to get out my DSLR more often! We bought one a few months ago, but I usually just grab the point and shoot because it is in a drawer in our kitchen. I will start putting in the extra effort of getting the DSLR out!

I knew it was a good idea to wish you a Happy Birthday early! 7 posts later and I’m fnally back. I think most on here think you’re older because you are so knowledgeable when it comes to the advice you give out?!

Not sure I’ll comment on all 7 but I’m off to the next one πŸ™‚

Happy belated birthday! The camera is such a great gift! Natural lighting IS so important! My MiL has one of those nice cameras, but always uses flash, so everything looks terrible.
