Half-way to 2011?!

fruits and vegetables· garden

1 Jul

Scary, isn’t it?

Exactly 6 months ago you probably did what many Americans do – set New Year’s Resolutions. Only to be forgotten by the close of January. The turning of a page; the start to a new year, with bright hopes and dreams of a healthier, happier you. Or something like that…

My 2010 New Year’s Resolutions were:

To fit in exercise AT LEAST 4 days a week, every week

To continue trying new, healthy recipes (one recipe a week!)

To run a half marathon

To obtain a weight that I feel energized at

To continue blogging about nutrition

To earn 500 hours towards the CDE credential

I’m going to go one-by-one here…

  1. Exercise 4 days a week – Check! While I’m getting in just shy of 4 runs per week, hockey games have put me at 4-5 workouts a week…every week. Woo!
  2. Try a new, healthy recipe each week – Check! Maybe I was anticipating getting lazy or something, because this has been a breeze! I probably try 2-4 new recipes a week…so many new recipes that Mr. Prevention BEGS for me to make his favorites over again!
  3. Run a half marathon – Check! Ugh, done. This wasn’t “fun” but it was humbling and I was proud of myself. You can read the race recap if you missed it!
  4. Obtain a weight I feel energized at – In progress! I have lost 3-4 pounds (sigh). While I want to lose 30 pounds, this is a start! My PCOS diagnosis has been a major set-back so I am being patient and getting to my happy weight the right way, with the obstacles I face in mind.
  5. Continue blogging – In progress! I love blogging, and that hasn’t changed! I’m still posting an average of 6x a week, and that has stayed pretty consistent since the beginning of Prevention RD.
  6. Earn 500 hours towards my CDE credential – Slowly in progress! I have completed 215 hours towards my CDE since the start of 2010 for a total of 487.5 hours (I need 1,000). This is going slower than I’d hoped and I think this largely in part due to the addition of our bariatric program. In the beginning of 2010 I had no bariatric patients and I now see over 20 patients twice a month…at 30+ minutes an appointment. That time in baratric consult could have conceivably been spent on diabetic education, but it’s okay because I’ve learned a TON about bariatrics and met some wonderful patients, surgeons, and nurses in the process.

Quick Garden Update!

I had almost given up hope, but I see a cucumber!

The small start of a green bell pepper growing! Do you see it?!

Knocked over onions so the bulbs continue to grow!

Question: What was one New Year’s Resolution you set that you have either met, or that is currently in progress?

Here’s to a wonderful second half of 2010!

Cheers,

Wow the cucumber really gives the hope! It’s so nice to have a garden full of fresh organic vegetables.
My New Year’s resolutions were to lose 20 pounds and to learn speaking Arabic ….. I lost about 8 pounds 🙁 still long way to go.

Frustrating when I’m heading the wrong way in the weight department! I still have 6 months to meet my #1 goal.

Awesome that you did a half marathon, my brother is looking to do one.

Way to go hitting almost all of those resolutions. I dropped the ball on my desire to do 25 push-ups. I guess I should drop and give you 5 for that, huh? 🙂

Woo Hoo on the garden progress ! It is a very exciting thing to suddenly find food growing on your property !!! As to resolutions, I never make them. It’s not that I am unmotivated or such bu I have this attitude that life is like a stream and each rock you flow over was meant to teach you something. I simply settle for the idea of hitting the next beginning of the calendar year breathing. Everything from that point on is a bonus !

Babe, you are doing great with your resolutions! Keep up the good work!

I’ve been going strong with my bread baking which was my one resolution…although I think it’s kind of cheating for me to make a resolution that involves eating MORE carbs.

I’ve never really made any resolutions haha. Except once in 7th grade, where I was FORCED to make up 3 new years’ resolutions by my homeroom teacher, who then gave me a C- on it… o.O (Almost 4 years later and I’m still not over it. ;))

But it’s awesome that you’ve kept to yours so well!! I’m so impressed that you ran a half marathon. 🙂

And your garden is looking lovely as ever!

That’s great that you have already completed and are still working on so many of those goals! Honestly, until this post I really did forget about what my exact New Years goals were. Part of them was to stop snacking so much, which I can’t say I’ve totally mastered but have definitely come a long way on! I love this post because so many people need those extra reminders to take them all the way back to their goals set on January 1st!

Wow, you are kickin’ butt on your resolutions!!! I am very impressed – I think resolutions are tough, especially when you have more than one. I had a few resolutions and am doing pretty well on all but one – the most important one, at that! (Working on my faith). I haven’t forgotten, life just gets….busy. But I know, that is not an excuse!

Yay for staying on track with the goals! I am probably goint to complete a few (like paying off my car, running a 10K), but will not get to others (taking a sewing class). I got 2 little bell peppers off my plants today-they are so cute! Your’s will be ready soon!

You’re doing really well with your goals. Kudos.

My main goal was to be kinder to myself and, while there’s still work to be done, I’m making progress.

I am 100% on top of mine. On my recent vacation it was tough to go to the gym at least 4 days a week, but I made my resolution general enough to include no time limit for the day and also no specifics, just physical activity. On vacation around Europe all we did was walk. Some days I was on my feet walking around gardens or castles for 5 hours a day. The end result, absolutely no weight gain when I checked my weight this morning. That was after a 3 week vacation.

Good work so far on the resolutions!

My resolutions are going well. It’s funny because I set a goal to run a couple 10k’s… I’m doing 2 this month alone and am training for a half. So I think I exceeded that one! Yea! 🙂

    Happy Thursday!

Great job with your goals! Believe it or not, I didn’t make any resolutions this past January…unless you count getting my master’s and finding a job, which I have now accomplished. 🙂
