Relocated!

Forewarning: This post has nothing to do with nutrition, cooking, health, or fitness. 🙂

Wow. Words cannot describe the happenings of the past week. But let me try anyways. 😉

Last Monday the movers showed up in Tulsa. They packed us all day Monday and loaded all of Tuesday. It was a FULL 2 days of packing. Lily was totally exhausted once she got over the initial excitement of all the happenings around her.

(You guys asked for Lily pictures…you got’em!)

Before we left, I picked the remains of my Tulsa garden. And LOOK what popped up in time for our departure: JALAPENOS!! Poor timing, but that means that everything I planted produced yield!! 😀

Picked my onions at immature bulbs, but they’re a good 2″

Tuesday afternoon around 3pm we headed out for a 9 hour drive to central Illinois to spend the night with Mr. Prevention’s parents. Lily did wonderful and we got in safe and sound, albeit very late and totally exhausted. We slept in the next day and I proceeded to take a 3 hour nap. Glorious. Wednesday was just a day to relax and we got to have pizza and tour our old stomping ground, The University of Illinois. 🙂 Always fun to recall those amazing 4 years!

Thursday morning I headed out before Mr. Prevention to get to my interview in Columbus. Another 5 hour drive. Off I went in my suit all prepared! Of course, somewhere along the line I got a run in my nylons. An emergency Walgreens trip and nylon change later, I was nearly late to my interview. However, it went really well. They have three second-round candidates for 2 positions and I should know something more this week. However it turns out, I was pleased with my interviews and gave it my all.

After my interview I rushed to our new house to do the final walk thru. The previous owners had taken it upon themselves  (against the contract agreements) to spackle EVERY nail hole in the entire house. I walked in to a polka-dotted house. Ugh. We got a painting estimate right away and asked the sellers pay for the painting. They said no. We were in a head-lock. And would we close first thing the next morning? Stress.

Thursday night we spent in a hotel in Columbus that allowed pets, because we had not only Lily, but also Pinky, our snake. And about 50 bottles of wine to keep cool, or at least room temperature. So we roll up to the hotel and it’s a 4-star, luxurious hotel. But, they allowed pets…the only one in Columbus. Three carts later, Lily, Pinky, and all of our wine was in our hotel room. It was a sight to see, but everyone thought Miss Lily was just the cutest thing. The hotel was SO nice that someone actually asked if Lily was a service dog. At which point I laughed and politely responded, “No, just staying here because they allow pets!” Too funny. And so Thursday night was a restless night with Lily’s snoring 10 feet from the bed. Sigh.

And as for the house, the seller’s realtor ended up forking over the money for the painting from her commission. What a saint. We closed and we started moving in on Friday morning.

Friday was a whirlwind. We unpacked all day and I was beat. It was 4pm before I had even looked at the clock, but we had made good progress unpacking. We went out to eat on a patio near our new house and just took a load off.

Saturday we continued unpacking and when I had finally stopped to just sit, I realized something. Something bad. I had COMPLETELY forgotten to go take my drug screen on Friday for my new job that I start TODAY. Oh. My. Gosh. I immediately started crying. That is precisely how busy this week has been…and I blew off something that important without even REALIZING it until more than a day later. I called immediately and everything is fine, but I just can’t believe that happened.

On a completely unrelated and happier note, I WENT TO TRADER JOE’S!!! Oklahoma doesn’t have TJ’s and so this was majorly exciting for me! I now have a fridge full of delicious foods! I really don’t know how I survived 18 months without TJ’s!! 😀

This was an insanely long post, I apologize. And unfortunately, my next post may not be for a bit. I start work today, and Mr. Prevention is due into the office, too. Meaning, getting a cable guy to come out this week probably won’t happen until Saturday. And this is where I admit to having the shakes from Internet withdrawls. No lie. Ahhh!

In the mean time, I’ll try to decompress & celebrate our new home this way:

Off to my first day of work! 😀

Thank you, Cold Stone, for letting me borrow your internet from the parking lot! 😉

Question: Would you rather go a week without Internet or TV? Would you do okay without either, or would you be camped outside Cold Stone too? 😉

I will do my best to check-in, but for now it’s focusing on my new job! And staying hopeful about the job I interviewed for last week! 😀

A huge thanks again to all the wonderful guest posters last week! 😀

Have a great week,

Congrats on the move and interviews! Sounds like you’re settling in well. Trader Joe’s is a definite plus!

I could definitely go a month without TV if need be. I barely watch TV as is…the computer on the other hand is such a useful tool, it’d be super hard to give up!

  2. August 2, 2010 / 5:29 am

What a week! Congratulations on the move. Its so exhausting (we just did it too), but it feels so good once you’re settled. Good luck on your first day of work ๐Ÿ™‚

And yeah for Trader Joe’s…we lived in NH for 2 years and lived without. Very happy to be back in MA this past year!

  3. August 2, 2010 / 6:31 am

I missed you!!! And Lily’s cuteness too of course. ๐Ÿ™‚

That is one whirlwind of a week. Moving will seriously take it out of you. Hope things can start settling down a bit. And good luck with the job!!! They would be crazy not to take you.

  4. August 2, 2010 / 6:58 am

What a week! So glad your job was understanding about the drug screen.

If I had to choose, I’d rather go a week without TV than Internet. I can’t imagine getting through a week without Internet–unless I’m on vacation.

Good luck with the rest of your unpacking, the new job, and the possible job!

TV – I’ve done it before, during busy time at work. Plus, you can catch up on your tv shows online or dvr. So one week is not bad. Good luck on your first day! Usually it’s an easy one, hope so since you’ve been working all weekend.

  6. August 2, 2010 / 7:20 am

I could definitely go without TV, but it would be tough without internet. I’m an addict.

  7. August 2, 2010 / 7:26 am

Congrats on the move!!! Sounds like it was a stressful week indeed…it was obviously very stressful to Lily too ๐Ÿ™‚

    I didn’t know you have a snake!

  8. August 2, 2010 / 7:40 am

Awww yay! Safe and sound! The lily pictures are just adorable!:0)

I can honestly say cable. I’ve been without for almost 4 years now, and I don’t miss it one bit! If I ever feel the need to watch something people are talking about, I can generally find it online! Internet though, I’d be a mess! Haha

  9. August 2, 2010 / 8:07 am

WOW!! Busy weekend!! Well, I’m glad you made it to your interview, and the drug screen, well, it can be re-scheduled, right?! The interview is most important. Speaking of interviews, they are hiring for more Giant Eagle positions in the area, if you’re interested. You took that other job though, right?? So maybe not. I just thought I’d throw that out there.

I would definitely be parked outside of Coldstone for the internet access. I don’t blame you! I wouldn’t go there for ice cream though, I’m not a fan. Dairy Queen is much better ๐Ÿ™‚

  10. August 2, 2010 / 8:20 am

Wow, just reading all about what you did made me tired–I can imagine how exhausted you must be. At least you still have good spirits though! Can’t wait to hear about your new job ๐Ÿ™‚ And glad Lily is adapting to her new home.

  11. August 2, 2010 / 8:36 am

What a crazy week, so glad you guys are getting settled ๐Ÿ™‚

  12. August 2, 2010 / 8:52 am

Glad you made it safe and sound!! Thanks for the Lily pictures!! ๐Ÿ™‚

I’d rather a week without TV. I am addicted to the internet, haha! ๐Ÿ˜‰ I’ve done without it before, but it makes me grumpy!!

  13. August 2, 2010 / 8:58 am

I love the picture of Lily sitting against the wall with her legs straight out, my dogs sit the same way, lol!
Good luck at your first day of work!!!!!!!!

  14. August 2, 2010 / 9:10 am

I can’t imagine a life without TV or internet. I’m hooked on technology.

  15. August 2, 2010 / 9:20 am

I could definitely go without TV! We hardly ever watch it and only keep it for LOST (which is gone, now), Formula 1, and college football season. If football didn’t start in a month, we’d probably just cancel it. Internet, though, is essential when you live with a computer engineer. :0)

    Good luck on the job!!

  16. August 2, 2010 / 10:04 am

Eek, I’m so glad it’s all working out.
Internet vs. TV? Without a doubt I’d go without TV. Both? Well, that would definitely be harder for me, but I could do it – it would result in lots of good books being read. Every now and then a break from technology is nice – although I’m sure if you’re getting settled in a new place it’s nice to have access to google.

  17. August 2, 2010 / 10:28 am

Whew, what a week! For me, I would rather go a week without tv than internet. I HAVE to check my email! It’s a sickness I know… ๐Ÿ˜‰

  18. August 2, 2010 / 11:10 am

Wow – you’ve been SOO busy! Best of luck with the new job!

And I could easily go without TV since I never watch it anyway, but internet…. um…. I can hardly go a day without it before I start suffering withdrawl :-).

  19. August 2, 2010 / 11:31 am

Wow, seems stressful. I understand the pet hotel stuff. We had to do 1 week in a hotel before moving overseas and they said they accepted pets. When we brought in the cat, we found out they do not actually take cats. I threw a fit and said their policy did not specify that at all and said pets (I think it was implied dog and cat, like house pets or something). In the end, we were able to keep her there but had to pay extra. Trust me, the dog made more of a mess because she sheds so much. I am glad you found a hotel to take your pets. It is tough.

I hope day 1 at work went well and that the second job works out.

I would rather go a week without TV because a week without internet means I would loose my job or have lost it already. My job requires online once every 24 hours to check student emails. I teach online, so that is my life there. No can do without it. But TV is easy.

  20. August 2, 2010 / 11:43 am

Wow what a crazy week! I’m glad everything turned out alright though ๐Ÿ™‚ I love the pics of Lily, as always. I’m not really a snake person but it would be cool to see some pics of Pinky too!

  21. August 2, 2010 / 12:12 pm

What a week! Goodness girl!! I am glad everything seems to be going as planned! I would rather go without TV than internet and please don’t make me! haha!

I had no idea you had a snake?!! What kind?

  22. August 2, 2010 / 12:20 pm

I hope your first day at work is going well. You’ve had a whirlwind of a week! Lily looks exhausted ๐Ÿ™‚

I could go a week with no TV. Internet would be tough. We’re spoiled, what can I say?!

  23. August 2, 2010 / 2:29 pm

As long as I had my iPhone I don’t need either! Congrats on the new home

  24. August 2, 2010 / 4:03 pm

Wow, you guys have been busy! Hopefully things will settle down now though.

I’m totally in love with that pic of Lily sitting upright…adorable!!!

  25. August 2, 2010 / 4:09 pm

Gosh, what a crazy few days! At least now it will all be downhill.
I would have to say I would do much better a week without TV than internet. There are days when I only have the TV for maybe 20 minutes, whereas I am constantly online.

  26. August 2, 2010 / 4:16 pm

Congratulations on the move and new job…Lily is so cute ๐Ÿ™‚

  27. August 2, 2010 / 10:45 pm

Wow! Sounds like you’re in the midst of a huge life change. Congrats on the job. I applaude your gardening skills. And Lily is just the biggest cutie patootie ever! Looks like you more than earned that glass of Prosecco ๐Ÿ˜‰

I could go without tv anyday, but please don’t take my wi-fi!! Thank goodness there are places like Cold Stone and Starbucks.

  28. August 3, 2010 / 2:17 am

Congrats nicole…all the best for your new job…

  29. August 3, 2010 / 9:44 am

Sounds like a VERY busy few days!

I could go 2 weeks without TV no problem – internet would be another issue.

  30. August 3, 2010 / 11:25 am

Wow! What a whirlwind of events! Congrats on the big move and new home! And the best of luck to you with the job interviews!

  31. August 3, 2010 / 1:57 pm

Congrats!!!! Lily is adorable as usual. Why on earth would the sellers think that was a good idea, good for the agent but she shouldn’t have had to, bad sellers bad!

I could do 2 weeks no TV did one week no internet and it was hard, but I might be able to manage again.

  32. August 3, 2010 / 5:35 pm

You have been so busy. I tell you that Lily dog is adorable. She sounds like quite the travel partner. Congrats on your move and new job…I hope it is smooth sailing from here on in. At least you have all that wine ๐Ÿ™‚ No way I could go w/out the internet. TV could go away.

  33. August 4, 2010 / 11:49 pm

Congrats on your move!! And yay for TJs – it’s one of my favorite stores ๐Ÿ™‚ Those pics of your pup are so cute too!

  34. August 6, 2010 / 2:40 pm

Did NOT know Mr Preventions parents live in Central IL! Me too, I’m only about 40 min south of the U of I ๐Ÿ˜‰ Small world

  35. August 10, 2010 / 2:37 pm

Wow, what a move!!! I would be beat too. I could just picture you getting Lily, Pinky and 50 bottles of wine in the hotel, oh my gosh. Yay you made it!
    Speaking of interviews, Gina???? ๐Ÿ˜‰
