New Gym & Weekly Menu

We are wrapping up family time in Illinois and heading back this afternoon. It’s been a relaxing, most enjoyable Thanksgiving holiday and much needed break (even though I a substantial amount of time grading and preparing for classes next week…). I am looking forward to healthier meals…and joining our new gym that’s 1.5 miles from our front door! It opened last Tuesday, and we’ve taken the tour…now we just have to take the plunge (I’m full speed ahead and Mr. Prevention isn’t quite convinced).

It is true that we have an amazing home gym in our basement. We have purchased for Christmas the previous two years both a treadmill and an elliptical, and for Mr. Prevention’s birthday this September, he got a really nice weight bench and set of adjustable weights. I’m great about doing cardio in our home gym, but I need group classes to get me doing any sort of resistance training. I know this about myself. I also love spinning and this new gym has awesome spin bikes. They look like they’re from the future, seriously.

Other than Mr. P’s argument that we have a full home gym is the argument that I don’t have much time in which to squeeze in any additional activities. And while that is true, I am hoping that after finals (December 8th!!), things calm down some. At least there are no Saturdays in the foreseeable future that I will have to go into the clinic. Yippee!

In addition to adding some resistance training and varied cardio to my routine, I am anxious to get back in the kitchen. The few weeks leading up to Thanksgiving I was like a kid in a candy store grabbing healthy recipes from every nook and cranny of the Internet. Here’s what this week brings…

Weekly Menu: November 27th – December 2nd

December on Thursday…whaaa? It looks like the mild fall weather has run its course. This week looks to drop into the 20’s in Ohio. Eek!

P.S. My Pumpkin Pie Fudge via Chef Dennis made today’s Top 9! Thanks, Chef!

P.P.S. Around the Plate’s amazing intern, Leah, featured me on their site. I am totally flattered – thank you!

See ya in Ohio,

I’m so glad you had a nice holiday! Well deserved days off from work!

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, your motivation to work out at home at all is inspiring to me! I’m like you, I need a gym or class to push me harder. It seems like if I take the time to drive to the gym, I am way more likely to make my work out really count. Plus I LOVE yoga and I’m afraid I’d kill myself if I tried doing that at home without professional supervision. ๐Ÿ™‚

Glad you had a nice Thanksgiving! I have grading and prep work put off until now and am slightly panicky right now… ๐Ÿ™‚ Glad you were more productive throughout the days off…

Hope you had a good drive back. Your meal plan sounds good! Have a great week!

Congratulations on making Top 9! That doesn’t surprise me at all – it was terrific! The home gym sounds amazing! Living in Florida, we don’t have basements and there isn’t enough room for a treadmill. We have a very active young dog, who lives for walks, so that’s how we get moving! Have a GREAT week!

We may have been in C-U at the same time! We went to have Thanksgiving with the kids. Drove home yesterday in terrible weather. A 9hr drive took us 12 1/2hrs!! I want to get an elliptical, but we just don’t have room for one. ๐Ÿ™‚ Happy Holidays.
