I must admit that I’ve never paid for a stranger’s coffee, but I’ve always thought the gesture itself was super sweet and thoughtful. I mean, that would seriously make my day. It makes my day when people leave coupons stashed on various food items around the grocery store for the next person to find. It’s just that extra little thought and consideration that makes people smile, that saves them a few cents, or something that is just…unexpected and NICE to do.
Without getting overly personal (never thought you’d hear me say that, did ya? 😉 ), my migraines are hormone-induced and so my migraine prescription comes from my OB-GYN. I did have the prescription filled once during my pregnancy, but yesterday, I found myself all out of my meds and amidst a raging migraine. A mighty fine way to start the week…not.
I called my OB-GYN office and left a message for the triage nurse who performs prescription refills. She called me back (6 hours later) and left a voicemail that went something like this: “Hi, this is blahblahblah returning your call about your prescription. Unfortunately, we haven’t seen you in the clinic in some time and you will need to call your primary care provider for a refill. Bye.”
I was livid. First of all, my OB-GYN is technically my only, and thus my primary provider until I establish care with a new provider later this month. Second of all…haven’t been seen in the clinic in some time?! I had a baby 17 weeks ago! And last but not least, the prescription was filled by the OB-GYN practice only a few months prior.
I call back and left another message, in which I couldn’t rein in all of my sass: “Hi, this is Nicole Morrissey returning your call about my prescription refill. I am a bit confused by your message indicating that I have not been an active patient at the practice. I had a baby 17 weeks ago and a post-partum check-up at 6 weeks, so by my math, I was seen approximately 11 weeks ago in the clinic. I am having an active migraine and so I do consider my refill request to be of somewhat urgent nature. I would appreciate a return call with an update on whether or not my prescription can be refilled today or if I will need to go to an urgent care. Thank you.”
No call back.
By 6pm I was desperate and I had remembered that the nurse midwife (my provider at the clinic) had given me her cell number for use during my pregnancy. I texted her the situation and she called right away. She was able to send the order to my pharmacy and I picked it up within the hour. She was so sweet and I was so thankful. I mean, how great is that customer/patient service? Love her.
Since the act of service should not go unrecognized, I sent her flowers to the clinic. They’ll arrive tomorrow. I hope she likes them 🙂 It really is the little things in life…the simple things in life…that warm people’s hearts the most.
On that sappy, simple note – a sticky, sweet, and super simple chicken dish for you, dear readers. Because who doesn’t need another quick and easy chicken dinner option, right? Totally. You’ll love this one, no doubt about it!
- 2 Tbsp grainy, course mustard
- 2 Tbsp smooth dijion mustard
- ¼ cup honey
- 4 tsp olive oil, divided
- ½ yellow onion, halved and thinly sliced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 3 (5 oz) boneless skinless chicken breasts
- ¼ tsp salt and pepper
- 4 small sprigs fresh rosemary
- Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
- In a small bowl, combine the mustards, honey, and 2 teaspoons of the olive oil.
- In a sauté pan or cast iron skillet, heat the remaining 2 teaspoon of olive oil over medium heat. Once hot, add the onion and sauté until tender, about 5 minutes. Add the garlic and sauté for an additional 30-60 seconds, until fragrant.
- Place the chicken on top of the onion and garlic mixture, and season with salt and pepper. Pour the honey mustard mixture on top of the chicken. Arrange the rosemary sprigs around the chicken, cover with foil, and bake for 20 minutes. Baste the chicken with the honey mustard and cook, uncovered, for an additional 10-15 minutes or until slightly browned and chicken is cooked through.
This looks really delicious! My husband loves honey mustard, so I will have to give this a try. On a side note, I have often wanted to strangle the triage nurse at my OB and pediatricians office. I am a RN, and I would never treat people like they do. That was so sweet of you to send flowers to the midwife! I have worked with several over the years, and they have all been wonderful, kind, caring woman.
Haha, I agree 🙂 She deserves a bouquet 1,000,000x as lovely as what I sent. If I were to have a second career, I would want it to be as a nurse 🙂
What medicine do you take? I get hormonal migraines too, every month without fail. I take Vicodin and it helps if I take it right when it starts; I was just wondering about other options. Ironically I haven’t had one since I’ve been pregnant, but I imagine they will be back.
Hi Kate! Congrats on your pregnancy! I take fiorcet currently with breastfeeding but my best luck is with imitrex. I love that stuff! Maxalt was good, too, but just too spendy on my insurance. 🙂

So glad you got the meds you needed! Here’s a good one for you. Last week the mail order pharmacy that my husband used called and asked for him. I politely said “I am sorry to let you know, but he passed away in December.” There was a slight pause and she said “so you don’t need these prescriptions filled?” Um No! So crazeballs!

As a fellow migraine sufferer, I feel your pain. Literally! They are truly awful! It was very nice of you to send flowers to the midwife and the triage nurse sounds like an idiot. My 6 year old son suffers from them too. It breaks my heart when he gets one, he is so pitiful!
