Barbecue Newbie

One of our engagement photos taken in Italy <3

Alison posted about her missing wedding rings this week. Luckily, she found them. When I read about her missing rings, I remembered my engagement ring SCARE! Just a few months after Mr. Prevention and I moved to Tulsa and into our first home, I was making homemade pico de gallo. I usually take my rings off and set them on the counter while I’m cooking. As beautiful as eternity bands are, they collect dirt, grime, and nastiness really easily! So we eat supper and after kitchen clean-up, I couldn’t find my ring.

I searched for hours. There were tears. Alligator tears. And then I got frantic. I started checked absolutely everywhere. The rings were no where to be found.

Several hours and a long emotional roller coaster later, I find my rings. In a bag…of cilantroin the fridgein the produce drawer. WHY would I look in the cilantro bag? I don’t know, but I am SO glad I did! Needless to say, I am now a bit more careful about where I leave my rings when I’m cooking…right next to my iDock in the kitchen 😉

Since it’s cooled off to a tolerable 96 degrees in Tulsa (okay, it’s really 94, but it’s been 98 for WEEKS!)…I decided to grill. And not just grill…but BARBECUE! Confession: I was a barbecue virgin until last night. Things went well and my BBQ drumsticks turned out so well! As did my home-grown squash! Mmmm!

BBQ Drumsticks

8 chicken drumsticks, skin removed
½ cup barbecue sauce
Tin foil

Directions:

Remove skin from drumsticks. Coat with barbecue sauce.

Place tin foil on grill grates and pre-heat grill. Cook drumsticks on the tin foil until cooked through. Serves: 4 (2 drumsticks each)

Nutrition Information (per 2 drumsticks): 310 calories; 10 g. fat; 210 mg. cholesterol; 520 mg. sodium; 12 g. carbohydrate; 0 g. fiber; 44 g. protein

Result: Does it get any more summery than this? Delicious…and easy! Nutritious, too!

…Too bad Mr. Prevention was delayed in Columbus and got stuck there for the night! More for me Lily! 😀

This lucky girl has a hair appointment and a vet appointment with Miss Lily today to check on her abscess on her eye. Did I mention she has an abscess on her eye? Shouldn’t be shocking, there’s always something wrong with baby girl!

Question: Have you ever lost something really important? Did you end up finding it?

P.S. Cherry cabinets won the popular vote, but white weren’t far behind!! I’ll let you know what we end up with 😉

I lost my wedding ring the morning we left Fitbloggin. I was DYING. Luckily, it was in one of my roommates bags!

Regular roasted veggies don’t even compare to veggies on the grill- the smoky flavor just makes them sooooo good!

Oh my goodness, I’ve misplaced my rings a few times, and I HATE that feeling.

    Hope Lily is okay!!!

I’ve misplaced my rings before! Talk about a mini heat attack!

Your BBQ chicken looks delish ๐Ÿ™‚

    Have a great weekend Nicole!

Those squash look good! I used to always be losing things and searching forever. Luckily that hasn’t happened to me lately.

In school, I use to always “lose” my rings. I hated washing my hands and still having wet under my rings. So I would take them off in the bathroom to wash my hands. I left them in so many high school bathrooms during those years, but luckily always found them. It was mainly my class ring and my mom’s h.s. class ring.

I lost my rings for about 3 months. I was so depressed about it, pretty much cried every day. The day My Husband went out and bought me a (not as nice) set, we found them. Thank God.

Yum those drumsticks look incredible! And I love your engagement photos! When I was little my Mom used to do pottery, and she had to take off her wedding ring so it wouldn’t leave marks. One day, she lost it! It was gone for a week. Then one morning I walked out of my house and there it was, sitting in the driveway! Best find I’ve ever had =)

I probably would have been bawling my eyes out, thinking life is over. I’m a bit dramatic like that. ๐Ÿ™‚ So glad you found the rings!

I’m a BBQ newbie, too. I leave any grilling up to the boy, but I should probably ‘woman up’ and learn!

  10. June 25, 2010 / 7:40 am

Oh my goodness! What a horrible ring scare! So glad you found them! I’m always afraid if I take mine off that I will lose them.

I’m also a novice on the grill. The husband usually mans it. But we’re getting a new one when we move, so I need to learn how to use it!

  11. June 25, 2010 / 7:54 am

I lost my rings all the time when I first got them (I’m not much of a jewelery girl, so I wasn’t used to them). Luckily I never lost them for good, but I understand that heart stopping feeling!

PS- I didn’t get your responses… did you send to [email protected]?

  12. June 25, 2010 / 8:44 am

That would be scary to lose your ring–so glad you found it, even if it was in the fridge lol! ๐Ÿ™‚
Great job on the BBQ too–it’s a bit intimidating at first, but you’ll get the hang of it fast I am sure.

  13. June 25, 2010 / 9:12 am

I just pray I never lose my wedding ring! I can’t imagine what that feels like! So so glad you found it!

  14. June 25, 2010 / 9:27 am

Oh I haven’t had that scare yet.
My brother-in-law hid my sister’s rings one time and she was so upset that she couldn’t find them. She was more upset when she found out he was pranking her

  15. June 25, 2010 / 9:40 am

What a sweet photo! I haven’t ever lost my rings yet *knock on wood* but it is a huge fear. I have a special little ring holder in my bathroom that I put them on when I shower or workout. It’s the only place I will put them when I take them off, but I just have this fear one day I’ll get lazy and put them somewhere else and then not be able to find them. Funny story though, one time my friend took her’s off b/c it was giving her a rash and her dog ate it! So she followed her dog around and a couple days later it came out, haha!! ๐Ÿ˜‰

  16. June 25, 2010 / 10:23 am

Oh my gosh, I can’t imagine losing your wedding ring! Thank goodness you found it. I lose things kind of a lot, so I’m sure when I get one I’ll probably misplace it a time or two. ๐Ÿ™‚

Once when I was about 14 or 15, I lost a ring my parents gave to me for 8th grade graduation. I looked and looked…but just couldn’t find it. The WEIRD thing? I had a dream one night that it was on my mom’s dresser, in a jewelry box. I went to look the next day, and….there it was! That’s the only cool ESP thing that’s ever happened to me, but how weird??!!

  17. June 25, 2010 / 10:39 am

That must be a horrible feeling, not knowing where you put your rings. Luckily, you found them!
I have lost all kinds of jewelry. I am not the best with that stuff I guess.
Good job on the grill. Everything looks delish. I have never grilled either.
    Have a great weekend Nicole!

While, it’s not that valuable I seem to have lost my ipod this week… along with everything else I ever picked up and can’t remember where I left it. Seriously, I have too much on my brain and am losing everything. Let’s hope I don’t loose something important like my wedding ring. =)

  19. June 25, 2010 / 3:27 pm

My husband lost his wedding ring in the lake our first year of marriage. I was devestated. Luckily he went the next day and bought the exact same one….good man! haha! ๐Ÿ™‚

  20. June 25, 2010 / 3:47 pm

After you told me about losing yours in the bag of cilantro my sister told me about losing hers in, would you believe it, a bag of cilantro!!!! What is up with that cilantro?

  21. June 25, 2010 / 4:28 pm

Im not married, so I dont have to worry about losing my ring. But I know if I DID I would freak right out.
I did lose my camera once though. It was practically brand new, I’d had it for maybe a month or two, and on halloween I had way to many drinks and it either fell out of my pocket, or someone stole it. I personally think it was stolen. I had ALL my pictures on there and I was devastated!

  22. June 25, 2010 / 4:44 pm

I lost my wedding band for a few days while we were on vacation. I thought I put it in a pocket in my bag, but it ended up falling out of a recliner when we reclined it!

  23. June 25, 2010 / 4:53 pm

    TGIF indeed.

I lost my high school grad ring. Years later, my aunt later found it in her wicker chair. A few months after it was found, someone broke into my house and took the ring etc. The ring had itty bitty diamonds (two), my birthstone and initials. I imagine that they probably got $10 dollars at the pawn shop… ๐Ÿ™

  24. June 25, 2010 / 5:16 pm

I hate when I lose things…the most important thing that I lost was a ring that my mother gave me =/ till this day, I still get sad when I think about it….

Have a great weekend love! =)

  25. June 25, 2010 / 7:09 pm

I lost my rings for a few days after I let my 2 year old try them on. I turned my back and said, “Where are mommy’s rings?” He looked at me and said, “Huh?” A few days later we found them stuck in a low drawer in the kitchen. It was a good feeling to find them.

  26. June 25, 2010 / 7:14 pm

*English nerd alert* Alligator tears mean fake tears, which I doubt is what you were shedding. ๐Ÿ˜›

But I’m so glad you found the ring! I’m obviously not married, but my best friend, whom I haven’t seen in 2 years because she lives in Egypt now, gave me a ring that she didn’t want anymore 4 years ago. It’s that really shitty type of fake silver, there used to be a gemstone in it but it fell out, but I’ve worn it almost every day since the day she gave it to me. And what I love about it is that it actually has “MO” engraved on the inside (that or “OW”…). Anyway, a couple years ago I lost some weight and so it was getting really loose, and then one day it just slipped off. I *freaked out*. This thing probably has a value of less than 50 cents but it means the world to me and I felt absolutely horrible for 2 days before I found it halfway under my bed. I moved it to a bigger finger after that. ๐Ÿ˜‰

The drumsticks look fantastic! And I hope Lily’s abscess gets better! ๐Ÿ™

Have a great weekend, Nicole! ๐Ÿ™‚

  27. June 25, 2010 / 8:04 pm

No rings to lose! Yet ๐Ÿ™‚ But I’m sure that once I have them they will promptly get lost. I lose everything!

I hope your puppy is ok. She is adorable!

  28. June 26, 2010 / 7:03 am

Oh hot damn! I don’t know WHAT I would do if I lost my engagement ring!!! Not that I have one….. but I can only imagine. Funny thing is that I always find things in the LAST PLACE I would ever think to look. So I’m not surprised you found it in the cilantro!

Congrats on losing your BBQ virginity. It looks like it was a success! Unlike most firsts….. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  29. June 26, 2010 / 9:36 am

I’m glad you found your rings, that would scare me too!

Oooh, BBQ chicken! One of my favorite things about summer… ๐Ÿ˜‰

  30. June 26, 2010 / 8:24 pm

Oh my gosh! That is so funny that your rings were in the cilantro! Muah ha ha. I am happy they showed up! I would be freaking out too!

I lost the charm (in a soccer field) of the first necklace my husband gave me and never found it ๐Ÿ™

  31. June 27, 2010 / 11:42 am

In the cilantro bag?!? So glad you found them!

Your chicken looks so tasty! And good luck getting ready for your big move!
