**I have removed the post I made Friday on Skinnygirl Margaritas. The CEO of the company contacted me in complete disagreement with my review of the product, and has requested I remove the post. Skinnygirl Margaritas is a lower-calorie pre-mixed margarita product compared to other non-“diet” pre-mixed margarita counterparts (i.e. Jose Cuervo, etc.). It is not a lower calorie alcoholic beverage choice, however (This should have been my original statement. Apologies, Skinnygirl). A 4-ounce serving (per the company’s serving standard) is comparable to a light beer or jigger of alcohol.**
hahah bethenny frankel contacted you? hilarious!
Umm, freedom of speech? It really bothers me that they wanted you to remove the post because it didn’t give a favorable review of the product.
Ahh, they shouldn’t have done that. I think you should have just edited it and then let us be aware of the edit. You have every right to hold your own opinion as to the product, and if they don’t like your opinion, who cares? Because I agree that it’d be real easy to down a buttload of calories with the drink, even if it is lower-calorie. ๐
Wow Bethenny =/
Wow, um, you are still entitled to your thoughts on a product, and still, it is not a product to include in every meal planning, but yes, I am sure it is lower calories than the other premixed drinks. All they really care about is money so if your post would hurt their income, I suppose they are entitled to “correct” you, but it is still not entirely appropriate to censor a dietitian. It was nice of you to do what the CEO asked.
Wow, what a sketchy company that they ask any negative review on their product to be removed! They are not allowed to tell people what their opinion on the product should be. Who only has 4oz. of a mixed drink? Any calorie count can look much smaller in that serving size! It was very respectful of you to take it down, but this company needs to work on their level of respect and honesty.
UGH!! I still don’t agree with the product. It’s using Agave Nectar as a marketing scheme, and it’s NOT working with me! I’ll stick with my regular margarita, sans the agave, thank you. I agree with the commenter above FREEDOM OF SPEECH!
Interesting. I’m not sure how I’d respond. I enjoyed both of these posts…a shame you couldn’t keep both.
It was nice of you to do what they asked, but I really don’t think you needed to take down the post. You’re the nutrition expert! I think you could have made the edit to the original post — I can’t believe they would ask you to take it down all together! Makes me like the product even less!
Also, I think just the name “SkinnyGirl” implies that this is the alcoholic beverage of choice if you want to be a skinny girl . . . quite misleading!
I agree! Same with the Skinny Bitch book…I was not a fan.
I felt your review was fair and spot-on! It is a shame that litigation threats force a person to remove a BLOG post! To state the facts is not wrong. This is another example of the propaganda and money-craving scheme behind “Skinny Girl.” The term skinny infers a reduction or a low-cal beverage. Perhaps a post on how agave syrup has more fructose than high-fructose corn syrup!!! Clearly it must be better for you than sugar…clearly I am being facetious! Keep up the fun blogs and the great info, Prevention RD!
So ridiculous– I’m glad I saw the first post! I wasn’t going to buy the product anyway…but I’m REALLY not going to buy it now, ha!
WOW, they just made themselves look really bad…IMO
Interesting that they felt threatened enough by your post to ask that you remove it! Bet you didn’t know you had that kind of power. I’m glad I got ot read the original post!
Wow. And that’s all I’m going to say…
How lame of them.
Honestly, knowing they contacted you to remove the post makes me not want to buy the product more than your original post.
I’m with Tracey.
Me too!
I agree 100%!
Same here – and it was too pricey (at my neighborhood liquor store anyway) for me to consider the first time around, why would I bother after this?
I can’t believe they asked you to remove it…it was dead on in my opinion. The label misrepresents the product, not your review of it! And 1.5 oz.??? WTH? That’s a shot…who takes shots of margarita? I want a big ol’ bucket of margaritas….hmmmm, maybe that’s just me. Anyway, you’re entitled to your opinion and too bad if they don’t like it – it’s not like you made up the information! However, you handled it very nicely, much better than I would have!
Wow, I can’t believe they asked you remove it! I think your reviews of products have always been fair and accurate. I don’t drink alcohol, but if I did I probably wouldn’t buy this product after hearing that! Hope you’re having a great weekend, sweetie!
Wow….just, wow. I really love Bethenny, but honestly this makes me not want to buy the product (not that I would…I actually don’t like margis). I think everyone is entitled to their own opinion! On a positive note, I feel like that speaks highly of you that you complied with their request. ๐
I’m with all the other commenters – you paid for their product, you should definitely be able to post whatever you like about it. This makes me want to boycott all their products.
I missed the original post and discussion, but I just have to throw in my own little vent about the SkinnyGirl and her margaritas. Did you that in addition to the bottled drink, there is also a recipe floating around for a from-scratch SkinnyGirl margarita? It has tequila, triple sec and lime juice. Maybe some sweetener – I think she uses agave. Well last time I checked, the scratch margarita is a classic drink that has been around for a long time – before the era of processed sugar-laden mixes. So why is she getting all of the credit all of a sudden?!
Nicole, I read your original post on this product as I do all your post and then never comment on them….bad I know. But I agree with everyone else’s comment. That is ridiculous. I am glad you made your original statement on the product because I know that I will never purchase it! I thought it was a great review!
I’m really surprised that a company would ask you to take down a review! I was still able to read your original post in my google reader and also think the labeling on the drinks is a bit misleading, especially with that small serving size!
wow, they asked you to take your review off!? and you listened!? such a nice blogger you are! ๐ you’re entitled to your opinions and making us aware of serving sizes/etc is only fair. i’d repost it if i were you!
