Sweet Bourbon Chili

Ingredients
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 1 green bell pepper, diced
  • 1 lb ground turkey
  • 2 Tbsp chili seasoning (recipe below)
  • ⅓ cup bourbon
  • 1 (14.5 oz) can diced tomatoes
  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • 1 (15.5 oz) can kidney beans (undrained)
Chili Seasoning Mix:
  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour
  • 4 tsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp crushed red pepper flakes
  • 1 Tbsp dried minced onion
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 2 tsp brown sugar
  • 2 tsp ground cumin
  • 2 tsp dried parsley
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • ¼ tsp ground black pepper
Instructions
  1. In a large pot over medium heat, cook the onion, bell pepper, and turkey for 8-10 minutes, breaking up with a spoon until cooked through.
  2. Stir in chili seasoning and cook an additional minute. Pour in bourbon and deglaze the pan, scraping up and browned bits on the bottom of the pot. Add diced tomatoes and tomato sauce; stir well and bring to a boil.
  3. Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer for 1 hour. Add beans the last 10 minutes of cooking.
