Yes, would have to get a male! I remember the all night exercising – yes!! So funny!! We had one of those exercise balls, too. Memories, for sure, like you said! 🙂

They maybe sort of smell? But that is more up to you and how often you clean their cage/bedding. We had an exercise ball they rolled around in out of their cage, but you can put that wherever – a screened in porch, the basement, garage, etc… just keep in mind they WILL poop/pee in it and it will go through the air holes 🙂 But it was SO much fun and at 36 years old I still remember all of it 🙂 My one large piece of advice would be to keep the cage away from all bedrooms since they are nocturnal and will run their little wheels until the cows come home.

Samantha, thanks so much for reading along and for your comment! Cracking up! So, I grew up with hamsters and when they started eating their babies I was like “nope, this animal isn’t for me!” and then Shea’s classroom had a pet ferret named Snowball and he waddled around the classroom and went into his cage to use the bathroom. He was great with all the kids in the pre-school. But…I’m hearing you say Snowball was an anomaly! 🙂 Any advice if we were to consider a small animal?!

As a veterinarian I can assure you ferrets are all these things ‘They stink and bite and get lost in the house” and they need a lot of interaction, exercise and like to get into everything. They’re super cute but can be a lot of work 🙂
