Hello from Las Vegas!

Why, hello!

It’s amazing how long a few days away from the blogosphere can feel. Missed y’all!

Family Vegas Trip 2011 started off a little rocky. My flight was delayed 7 1/2 hours. I showed up to the airport at 3:15pm on Thursday (after working nearly a full day) only to have my flight delayed and delayed and delayed some more. It didn’t help that everyone else, Mr. P included, was already in Vegas sipping beers and munching on burgers. Gr. So, 7 1/2 hours, a terrible salad from Chilis, and about 3 beers (from 2 different airport bars) later, I was en route. I learned a very important lesson about traveling, especially if you’re traveling alone — always bring a laptop. Always.

The New York-New York casino was POPPIN’ at 12am Vegas time (3am Columbus time) when I got into town. Had I not been in such a horrible, whipped state, I probably would’ve seen a blackjack seat with my name on it, but I figured bed was a wiser option.

Of course my body being on eastern time only allowed me to sleep until 8am Vegas time and I headed over to my parent’s room to say hi and wish my mama a happy birthday! The whole gang met up for brunch and we decided on the Aria buffet. We timed things right — got breakfast and lunch options for the breakfast price. It was all very good and indulgent! My gallbladder made me well aware of its disapporoval of my one slice of cheese that made it onto my plate and into my belly. So worth it.

With our bellies full, we gambled some at Aria. Mr. P ended up winning $100 on a $1 slot machine. I didn’t know people actually won playing slots. Father-in-law played a bit of craps with no birthday magic in his corner. We left Aria and started meandering back towards our hotel, stopping for $2 beers on the way. I love a city where walking around the street with a beer can is perfect acceptable at 2pm.

So after a buffet and beer, we decided the pool and swimsuits was a good option. I mean, we had to take advantage of the 90 degree sunny weather! I am now a shade darker than a starchy white potato. Amen. Before burning to a crisp, I headed in for some blackjack and decided to depart after a few hours and about $100 richer, overall.

We met down at Chin Chin restaurant for $5 martinis and Asian fushion. Delicious! We walked over to Aria for the Viva Elvis show which was very good. It’s no “O”, but there’s just not much that can compare to that. Seeing as I was off playing blackjack while everyone else napped, I was pooped and put myself to bed around midnight. I know, I’m lame. In my defense, that is 3am Columbus time!

This morning my body, once again, rousted me out of bed around 8am. My mom and in-laws had said they were probably going to workout in the hotel in the morning, but I opted to jog the strip. I jogged down past Mandalay Bay and then some, even running the stairs and walkway overpasses. Phew! I stopped for an iced coffee on my way back up to the room only to find a text from my mom that said everyone was working out in the hotel gym. Since Mr. Prevention was still sleeping in the pitch-black room, I headed down to join them. I added on another 2 miles of walking/jogging for about a 5-5 1/2 mile workout this morning. It’s always a battle won when you workout on vacation! For me, anyways.

I am showered and ought to wrap up. My belly is going to start roaring with aggression at any moment, I can feel it.

I hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend! And if you’re looking for amazing weather, come to Vegas 😀 I am so not looking forward to returning to the 40’s tomorrow! But until then…!

Glad you are having fun! DH and I love Vegas (and it’s snowing here in Maryland, so I’m sure there’s some snow in OH today as well….)

I went to Vegas once and one of the biggest shocks was cold pool water. Couldn’t believe it. It was July and 100 degrees but the water temp almost made me spin around.

Go see a Cirque du Soleil show for me. Please.

Love Vegas, we’re talking about heading back this summer. Southwest Airlines is actually offering a deal with 2 “comp” show tickets if I book a package with them by today, I believe. Have fun!!

Hooray for Vegas!!! And I LOVE Aria… it was where I stayed while there last month and it’s just so gorgeous!

If you get a Mexican craving, go to Diablo’s and get the fajitas… you won’t be disappointed!

Have fun in Vegas ๐Ÿ™‚ I went my senior year of college with a bunch of my sorority sisters and basically drank non stop. Not exactly the healthiest but it was a great couple of days!

I’m glad you’ve been having fun in Las Vegas, Nicole! I stayed over night with my dad and sisters when we were on a car trip several years ago and it was crazy! So many bright lights and so much cheap food! I’d like to go back and explore a little more someday. I guess I’ll have to live vicariously through you for now ๐Ÿ™‚

Good for you for getting your exercise in while on vacay! I tend to find it a struggle, too, but I feel such a sense of satisfaction when I complete a workout. Enjoy the rest of your vacation!

Sounds like such fun!! And cmon, you should tell Mr P that he already won the lottery when he landed YOU ๐Ÿ˜‰

But that is so cool about the slot machine, none the less.

Good to hear from you – I miss reading when you take a break!

Hi Nicole, Sounds like a GREAT time!!! I can’t wait to get to Vegas one day soon. Say “hi” to Barry Manilow for me! ๐Ÿ™‚ (I really love him! – kinda embarrassing, but I do!)

Sounds like you had a great time!
The weather was pretty great this weekend! I actually have a dress on today! So nice!

I have never been to Vegas. My hubby wants to go bad but I could not gamble the way that he does. I am not much of a risk-taker! ๐Ÿ™‚

I actually think that I workout more when I am on vacation. The reasons: access to gym, less distractions (such as laundry), we usually travel w/ family so someone to watch the kids.

  16. April 4, 2011 / 12:22 am

wooo sounds like fun! Why of course I live here ๐Ÿ˜‰ I can’t believe how warm it is here already, I am roasting. Glad you’re having a good time!

  17. April 4, 2011 / 8:22 am

Last time I was in Vegas Aria was still under construction. Is it nice??

I’m not a big fan of Vegas…I find it kinda boring to be honest ๐Ÿ˜›

Glad you made it ok–I’ve always wanted to go to Vegas! Have fun ๐Ÿ™‚
