Red Wine Sangria

Mid-week. What a perfect opportunity to suggest this adult beverage.

For someone out there, it’s been a rough week. A week, thus far, that requires a cocktail to finish out. Or for someone out there, here’s a great drink suggestion for your anniversary dinner, or at-home dinner party. Maybe you’re already planning your Friday Happy Hour. In any case, you’re in the right place.

Not only do I love Bobby Flay, but his recipes never fail. So when we were entertaining a group of 16, and I knew beer alone would not suffice, this was what Google and I came up with. Google never fails.

I’m not gunna lie…I got a little leery when brandy and triple sec popped up in the ingredient list. Why was I under the impression ginger ale was to be in sangria? BONK.

Booze…there’s more booze in sangria. You’ve been warned.

Red Wine Sangria slightly adapted from Bobby Flay

2 bottles (750 ml) red Spanish table wine
1 cup brandy
1/2 cup triple sec
1 cup orange juice
1 cup pomegranate juice (I used POM Wonderful)
20 drops NuNaturals liquid stevia (or 1/2 cup simple syrup)
1 orange, thinly sliced
1 apple, cored and thinly sliced
1/3 cup pomegranate seeds

Directions:

Mix all ingredients together and let stand in a tightly sealed container or pitcher for at least 24 hours in the refrigerator before serving. Yield: ~80 ounces (without fruit). Serves 10 – 8 ounces each with 1-2 slices of apple, orange, lime, and several pomegranate seeds each.

Result: HOLD on to your pants, folks! This sangria is, without a doubt, incredible! People loved this at our cookout and it was gone, gone, gone (sad! I was hoping for leftovers 😉 ). This was simple to make and potent…yet delicious! If you love sangria (or wine!) This is a must try recipe!

My workout last night was, again, torture. I finished a very exhausting (but not really, if you know what I mean) 30 minutes on the elliptical. I…will…get…out…of…this…rut! Some how…some way. Maybe if the weather would cooperate, I could get out on my bike and change things up. But clearly, Ohio weather has a mind of its own. C’est la vie.

Question: Red or white sangria?

Half-way to Friday!

Cheers,

I had my first cup of sangria just two years ago, believe it or not. It was amazing and I’ve been addicted ever since. One time last year someone asked me if I wanted some “homemade sangria” and I quickly said, YES! But then she served me white wine sangria….I’m NOT a fan.
I also can’t stand Bobby Flay, however, I’ll ignore the fact that this is his recipe and perhaps I’ll make it one day ๐Ÿ™‚ It does sound really delicious.

Looks great! Sangria is one of my favorite summertime drinks. I prefer white sangria (and white wine) but I don’t mind a really good red sangria as well!

Even though I do not enjoy fruit, I will partake in white sangria- mostly because it’s a little more citrus-y and that I can handle in small doses… lol

My husband LOVES sangria…he gets SO excited anytime we go to a restaurant with it on the menu. I’ll have to surprise him with this at home sometime ๐Ÿ™‚

Ive only ever had red wine sangria – never white. I should try it so I can decide which is better. ๐Ÿ™‚
This sounds awesome though, I LOVE that it has pomegranate.

I love sangria! I took it to a party a couple weeks ago and it was a hit! I also felt like I got hit in the head the next day. wine + booze = possible killer hangover! I’ve never tried making mine with pomegranate juice but I bet that was great!

Oh and PS – cheap versions of sangria usually do use ginger ale or another bubbly soda to make the wine go further. And when I was in Spain, one thrifty bar just added Fanta to red wine!

true story, while sitting at my brother’s house in NY a few weekends ago, sipping some sangria, my SIL asked me if I knew how to make it ( the stuff they had was store bought) so I googled sangria and got that same bobby flay recipe. We didn’t make it, but I will be sure to do so now!!!

White or Red? Whichever kind you have will be fine with me! lol

Yum! I use to make an alcohol free sangria that was perfect for summer evenings. I need to find that recipe and make it again.
