Full Moon 5K

This was Mr. Prevention’s 2nd year running the Full Moon 5K in Tulsa. It’s a great race sponsored by a local bar and includes free beer at the finish line. What’s nice about this race is the 8pm start — I’m an evening exercise, so I like this! I spectated this year and rooted on Mr. Prevention…my calves are STILL barkin’ from my 10-miler and I have a hockey game tonight…so I’m thinking this was a good move 🙂

Mr. Prevention finished in 20:?? — the official chip times aren’t out yet, but he shaved several minutes off his PR. Very proud!

It was so great to spectate a race versus running one (not that I don’t love running them!). The energy of a race is so contagious and seeing such elite athletes give 200% or the first-time racer giving it a shot brings tears to my eyes. Running is moving, I just don’t know what more to say about it!

Mr. Prevention BEGGED to celebrate with bacon cheese fries:

(you can see my chef’s salad there in the corner!)

I won’t burst his bubble in letting him know how many MORE miles he’d have had to put in to burn off those babies!

And I’ll leave you with 2 cute pictures of Miss Lily since I’m such a proud mama! She enjoyed the breezy weather yesterday and took a 3-hour nap on the patio (and then another 2 hour nap on her bed inside)…

Question: Have you ever run/walked a 5K? What do you or do you enjoy most about races? Would you prefer early morning start times, or evening start times?

    aww cute pics of Lilly!!

Congrats to Mr. Prevention on his finish! 20 minutes is a really really great time.

I prefer to run in the morning, so I like early start times. However, I’d prefer them to be more like 9 or 10 am instead of 7am!

I have run 3 5k races now (and a 10k) I love running in the morning, I hate having food in my stomach when I run so early is good ๐Ÿ™‚

Lily is adorable as usual love the lolling tongue.

OMG Bacon cheese fries! I would probably be sick but they look SOOOO GOOD!
I’m definitely a morning person and morning workout person. I RARELY have the motivation in the evening, after eating all day and working/using energy.
Races are so much fun to run, watch and volunteer for. The rush of adrenaline is floating in the air, rain or shine. I can’t believe I only started running 1 year ago. It’s definitely addicting!

Ya know I have never thought of it, but I’d probably love evening start times! Me and Kacy are actually doing the Downtown Dash in OKC and it starts at night! I’ll let ya know how it is!

Awww Lily is the cutest ๐Ÿ™‚
I love an early morning run and definitely love the 5K’s because they are short and sweet. Hope you had a fabulous Mother’s Day Nicole!

    Aww, Lily! *smooch smooch* ๐Ÿ™‚

Congrats, Mr. Prevention! I love seeing races, even if I’m not running in them! I think their energy is infectious, too. I’ve run a 5K once, oh, 2 years ago ๐Ÿ™‚ It was fun! I should really think about doing one again.

Thanks for the heads up about the Nutrition Blog Network! It looks like a great resource.

I want those fries! I’ll say he deserved each artery-clogging fried potato! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Wow you got a speedy guy there! I’ve only run a HM so far. I thought the atmosphere at it was great and hoping for the same in 3 weeks. I think morning or evening times are fine. A midday would be terrible depending on the time of year.

Oh Lily is so cute I just want to hug her!

Ive done a 5k walk before and thats the only one Ive ever done. It was so much fun and I dont know why I havent done more.
I LOVE that this run started at 8pm though. Im an evening exerciser too – the early morning runs just seem like too much for me.

  12. May 9, 2010 / 11:09 pm

Love the Lily sleeping tongue picture. That’s going to be me in the morning especially since I don’t know how to retire to bed.

I’ve participated in a couple of marathons and the reason that I don’t do more is the early start time. Yeah, that’s the reason I haven’t participated in more…

  13. May 9, 2010 / 11:12 pm

Great job to Mr. Prevention! I love watching races. I love cheering people on ๐Ÿ™‚ I just walked an 8K this weekend. Not sure if I have walked a 5K. I prefer very early race start times. I have only done one late race but would be open to trying more!

Ha ha. Love the pics of Miss Lily!

  16. May 10, 2010 / 6:30 pm

Aw I love Lily. I wish she and Bella could meet. I bet they would be best friends. We went on a cruise and left Bella to stay with a friend. We got her back and she was in heat 2 months earlier than expected! So needless to say she’s been staying inside a lot so some lovely stray male dog won’t come by for a visit. haha. Do you have Lily fixed?
