up to speed!

Hello from San Jose, California! 😀

I am feeling so caught up in Blogland! If you have visited my blog recently, I have now visited yours recently! I read  77 blogs last night and enjoyed every second of it while watching the Country Music Awards. Just wish I had more time to catch up on a more regular basis. I do the best I can and truly appreciate all the support you all give through your comments, emails, and everything in between!

Feeling low on “you” time? Who isn’t? Where is your time being spent?

Jennifer over at Fit At Heart had a fun exercise on her blog. It went like this:

1. Number of hours of sleep each night ____x 7=_____

2. Number of grooming hours per day ____ x 7=_____

3. Number of hours for meals/snacks per day-include preparation time.____x 7=_____

4. (a). Total travel time on weekdays ____x 5=______

4. (b). Total travel time on weekends _____

5. Number of hours per week for regularly scheduled functions(church, get-togethers, etc.) _____

6. Number of hours per day for household chores and errands ___x 7=____

7. Number of hours of work per week _____

8. Number of hours in class per week ____

9. Number of average hours per week of dates, socializing, exercise, etc. _____

Now add up the totals:____

Subtract the above number from 168.

Total hours leftover:_____???

Seriously. Take a moment and do this. It’s enlightening.

I had 20 hours unaccounted for. At first, this sounded like a lot, but it’s not. I don’t think, anyways. Things like over-time and the unexpected things in life are hard to account for. I know I spend a lot of time on meal prep and not enough time sleeping.

Question: How many of your hours in a week are unaccounted for?

In an effort to spend time on me, I ordered in room service and spent time doing what I wanted. Blogging!

Vegetable wrap with asparagus, mozzarella, spinach, tomatoes, and bell peppers with a side of fries and a tossed salad..and a Bud Light. Hey, it was on Johnson & Johnson’s dime. I went all out 😉

I’m really excited for Day 1 of the diabetes conference at the Johnson & Johnson Diabetes Institute. It is an all expenses paid conference for medical professionals working in diabetes including doctors, Nurse Practitioners, Registered Nurses, Certified Diabetes Educators, Registered Dietitians, pharmacists, etc. If you are a medical professional, look into attending!

On Tuesday evening I look froward to meeting up with Andrea of Andrea’s Wellness Notes! I’ve been reading Andrea’s blog since last summer and I can’t wait to meet another blogger in real life 😀

Does anyone have a good dog treat recipe? Lily’s birthday is next week and since she can’t go to doggie day camp due to her recent injury, I want to do something special for her. I’m a crazy dog mom, I know!

THANK YOU for all your sweet comments on whether or not I’m a runner. When I woke up without ANY stiffness or soreness I knew the Galloway training worked beautifully. Those walk breaks were worth it! I’m actually looking forward to my 9-miler this week! What a difference from last week, I can say that much!

And Leah at Why Deprive is having a CSN Giveaway! Check it out here!

Karla had a HILARIOUS post about Sunday and days of the week. I left her a comment about also hating Sundays. My mom always used to say, “Nicole, you can’t ‘hate’ Sunday…it’s the Lord’s day.”

Question: Do you like Sundays? What day of the week is your favorite and why?

Off to learn lots about diabetes!

I have a love/hate relationship with Sundays. I get the Sunday blues halfway through the day. I always have – I even remember getting them when I was little. It was always so hard for me to fall asleep!

  3. April 19, 2010 / 5:58 am

I’ve never ordered room service!! It sounds fun!
Hmm I did the where is your time spent. I got -25. Is that right? Maybe I’m not good at estimating how much time I spend on things haha!

You know how I feel about Sundays…

Enjoy your time in San Jose! I just bought a ticket to go home to California in a month for 2 weeks!

  4. April 19, 2010 / 6:09 am

Sundays are bittersweet. I think they start out ok… then I realize I’m getting sucked back into the work week….

  5. April 19, 2010 / 6:11 am

Oh room service looks awesome!!! Glad you got some reading time in for you…I’m afraid to tally those numbers up myself…:0 for time…ugh Sundays – I love …but I hate cause I literally spend most of the afternoon and evening fretting over going back to work the next day :(…not cool at all…I hate my job…:(…and I usually end up eating out – and eating so much – and then having to get up early the next a.m makes for a messy mind.
Oh well – hope you enjoy your conference and Blogger meet-up!!!

I always like Sundays because I’m never working. Now that it’s nice out I’m almost always golfing. My favorite days of the week right now are Tuesday,Thursday and Sunday as I’m off all 3 ๐Ÿ™‚

I have 60 unaccounted for hours. Must be why I’m always so cheerful….lol.

  7. April 19, 2010 / 6:22 am

Sundays always depress me ๐Ÿ™ I love Sunday mornings…but as the day goes on, I get sadder and sadder…by Sunday night, I’m a real downer! ๐Ÿ™‚

  8. April 19, 2010 / 6:42 am

Wow, your in California?! So great!! Nice time to relax and….well..read blogs it sounds like ๐Ÿ™‚ I agree that reading blogs, and watching tv of course, can be so relaxing sometimes. Especially when it includes a nice cold beer ๐Ÿ˜‰
I gotta tell you, I’m SO SO SO jealous that you get to meet Andrea! If you get to meet her son too, I’ll never talk to you again. He’s the cutest boy I’ve seen in my life!

  9. April 19, 2010 / 6:48 am

Hm, my unaccounted for hours are in the negatives. But that sounds about right. Saturday is definitely the best. I like Sunday, but there’s always the thought of Monday looming over it like a rain cloud.

  10. April 19, 2010 / 7:09 am

My favorite day of the week is Friday!!! I LOVE it!

Have a great time at the conference!!!

  11. April 19, 2010 / 7:13 am

Wow, that was pretty enlightening. If I don’t count the things we do on the weekends like running errands, since that vary’s from week to week, I have about 20 hours left as well. it does seem like a lot but I feel cram packed in my schedule so I don’t think it is! Very enlightening!

  12. April 19, 2010 / 7:34 am

I love room service. The older I get the more I am ok with Sunday, maybe it’s because I stay home so no job to go to.

    Have a great day!

  13. April 19, 2010 / 7:52 am

i love saturdays as i get time to relax and have a good time with family…

  14. April 19, 2010 / 8:41 am

My puppy’s birthday was last week and she turned 1! We didn’t give her a homemade treat, but we sang happy birthday to her and gave her a milkbone.

  15. April 19, 2010 / 8:46 am

Sounds like you are having a good time so far! ๐Ÿ™‚

I used to seriously dislike Sundays, even a few years ago. I just didn’t like that Monday was right around the corner, I guess. But these days I like Sundays. I developed a little “system” and try to get everything that needs to get done done by Sunday morning. Sunday afternoon is reserved for “play time,” which makes it very special! ๐Ÿ™‚

Enjoy the conference, and I’m looking forward to tomorrow! ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚

  16. April 19, 2010 / 9:11 am

I am taking this later today once I get some free time haha! Can’t wait to see my results!
I kinda have two favorite day of the week….Wednesday because it means the weekend is almost here and Friday because the weekend is here!

  17. April 19, 2010 / 9:24 am

So glad San Jose is treating you well! Sounds like a fabulous time- I especially love the room service! Deeelicious!

I love Sundays lately- there is something so exciting to me about a fresh start to a week. But I get the anxiety that can come too- just knowing all that needs to be accomplished can feel overwhelming.

I hope you have a fabulous day!!

  18. April 19, 2010 / 9:48 am

I really like Sundays cause they’re my day. Jacob works so I usually get a ton done.

My brother made Joe a batch of dog treats for Christmas. I think all that went in it was PB flour and oats… They were actually really good for a rock hard dog treat! Joe was sweet enough to share hehe. I’ll see if I can get the recipe from him.

  19. April 19, 2010 / 10:32 am

I have a love/hate relationship with Sunday. I definitely get a little bummed out because the weekend is ending but if I plan to go for a long bicycle ride, it has a way of taking the dread away.

Also, if I came maintain a level of positivity, it definitely helps.

I think your devotion to meal preparation is time well spent. I’m hoping to be more consistent in this area sometime in the near future.

  20. April 19, 2010 / 10:40 am

Friday is definitely the day I look forward to the most in a week, because it means I get the next two days to do whatever I want…how awesome is that!

  21. April 19, 2010 / 10:54 am

Glad you got a chance to get caught up on blogs. I love the time worksheet you have here. I will have to look later at this since I myself am running out of time right now and want to get caught up on blogs too ๐Ÿ™‚

My favorite day is Friday because I like to finish my day and then know I can stay up late watching movies. Plus we usually go out on Friday nights. I can push off work from Friday night into Saturday. I work from home so I am always doing some work. I actually like it this way.

  22. April 19, 2010 / 10:58 am

Don’t think I am weird but my favorite day of the week is Monday!! ๐Ÿ™‚

  23. April 19, 2010 / 11:51 am

I’m too scared to do this exercise!!! I know I don’t have any time for “me” and I don’t sleep enough… hopefully things will change, trying to get better at it!

I hope you learn a lot about diabetes ๐Ÿ™‚

    I don’t have a preferred day. I like Friday nights ๐Ÿ™‚

  24. April 19, 2010 / 12:48 pm

My definite favorite day of the week is Friday. We wrap up school for the week, have a family movie night, and then the next day is Satruday!!

  25. April 19, 2010 / 2:02 pm

I’m not sure how I feel about Sundays. Love the first 1/2, not so fond of the second 1/2 when I realize my weekend is over.

  26. April 19, 2010 / 2:18 pm

I have 36.25 unaccounted for hours. I didnt estimate cleaning time though, because Im more of a 5 minutes here and there type of cleaner.
I guess Im just not as busy as I thought! Thats kind of nice to know.

  27. April 19, 2010 / 2:30 pm

Sundays are good but it does mean Mondays are the next day ๐Ÿ™
Dog cookies, funny I used to make them to sell at the farmer’s market, for a friend, Drake is allergic to wheat so we did a gluten free and a wheat variety, the wheat have more crunch.
Cook 1 pound organic meat of your choice, just poach it, don’t use too much liquid, grind it up in food processor add in 1 cup baby oat and 1 cup rice flour, add enough of the cooking liquid to make a dough, it should be fairly dry (I mixed in a stand mixer because I was usually doing huge batches). Roll it out to about 1/4-1/2 inch thick cut with cookie cutters. Bake at 350 for 45 minutes until they are dried out. For wheat add in 1/2 tsp baking soda, and baking powder, 1 egg and 2 cups whole wheat flour.
I also did cheese by using the flour, water and parmesan to taste (my dogs liked alot), these were actually human tasty like cheezits without the salt… I used to eat them to demonstrate to buyers that the ingredients were all human grade ๐Ÿ˜›
For peanutbutter use 1/2 cup peanutbutter to the flour based and 1 tsp honey, cut like regular peanutbutter cookies with the little fork imprint. My ex husband ate like 4 of these before I told him they were dog cookies…

  28. April 19, 2010 / 2:32 pm

You know that’s funny….I can remember complaining to my mom all.the.time about hating Sundays! And she said something like, ‘Holly, one day, you will grow to LOVE your Sundays.’ Well, she was wrong and right. ๐Ÿ™‚ I don’t dread them as much, but I still get the Sunday blues – darn job LOL. My favorite day of the week is Saturday, hands down!

Enjoy your time in San Jose!

  29. April 19, 2010 / 2:42 pm

Oooo I make doggy biscuits for doggy friends at Christmas. I have a peanut butter recipe, and a cheddar/garlic. Which would you like? (I’m at work…recipes are at home) I can email them to ya! The cheddar is SO fast and easy…but you probably have all the stuff for the PB one in your pantry right now. ๐Ÿ™‚

  30. April 19, 2010 / 6:13 pm

Enjoy your trip!! I bet that will be a fascinating conference.

I love the first part of Sundays b/c I get to sleep in, sometimes I go to church, go for walks, eat nice laid back meals, but I hate the evenings b/c I always get the Sunday night blues and get really anxious about all I have to do in the coming week.

I’m about to email you the recipe for the b-day cake I made for Ripsey last week! ๐Ÿ˜‰

  31. April 19, 2010 / 7:51 pm

My favorite day is definitely Saturday!! Cool idea about the dog treats. Have a wonderful evening!
