A sleepy baby girl is a beautiful, beautiful thing…
Miss Lily went to camp yesterday so I got to enjoy a (brief) relaxing evening which I spent running and watching Big Brother. Pretty hilarious show!
And would you believe me if I told you Mr. Prevention ate an entire LARGE Little Caesar’s pizza in his hotel room this week?!?! He told me that last night! And last night for dinner? Buffalo Wild Wings and beer. But of course, I struggle with my weight and he’s a toothpick! Regardless, marriage is good for Mr. Prevention…that’s a bit too much sin for one week out of my sight! 😉
Despite being a single mom this week, I’ve kicked it up a notch with my running — my first 30 days of the 101 Days of Summer Challenge was not on track to complete 70 out of 101 days of running 🙁 . In the past week my workouts have looked like this:
Friday: 5 miles
Saturday: 5 1/2 miles
Sunday: 3 1/2 miles
Monday: 1 1/3 miles + 30 Day Shred
Tuesday: rest
Wednesday: 3 1/4 miles
Thursday: 4 miles
Weekly Mileage: 22.58 miles
I know that’s weenie stuff for a lot of you, but I am pleased! 😀 I’m going for consistency more than anything. And while the rest day after 30 Day Shred was coincidence, it was welcomed. Jillian Michaels is MEAN! That workout always kicks my butt! Someday…someday…I’ll graduate from my 5# dumb bells. Someday.

So, you remember when I made some super thick, delicious Greek yogurt a few days ago? Well, I also made some pretty delicious granola to sprinkle on top! 😀
Crunchy Classic Granola adapted from The Novice Chef
5 cups rolled oats
1/2 cup ground flax seed
¾ cup light brown sugar
1 Tbsp. ground cinnamon
1 tsp. ground ginger
1 tsp. salt
1 cup unsweetened apple sauce
1/2 cup honey
2 tsp. vanilla
2 tbsp. vegetable canola oil
1/2 cup almond slivers
Directions:
Preheat the oven to 300°F.
In a large bowl, combine all of the dry ingredients. Stir to mix well. In a small bowl, combine all of the wet ingredients. Stir to mix well. Pour the wet ingredients over the dry ones, and stir well.
Spread the mixture evenly on two rimmed baking sheets, either greased with cooking spray or covered with parchment paper. Bake for 35 to 40 45 to 50 minutes, or until evenly golden brown. Set a timer to go off every ten minutes while the granola bakes, so you can rotate the pans and give the granola a good stir; this helps it to cook evenly. When it’s ready, remove the pans from the oven, stir well – this will keep it from cooling into a hard, solid sheet – and set aside to cool. Yield: 18 servings; ½ cup each.

Result: This was very simple, good granola. Not the best, but good! I adjusted the cooking time to get it a bit crunchier and I added almonds to add some fat — the original recipe was too carb-heavy for my liking 🙂
Question: Do you say “dinner” or “supper”? Any exciting weekend plans?
True Okies call lunch dinner and dinner supper. I used to find that really bizarre, but I’ve adapted. It was always breakfast, lunch, and dinner in Chicago!
I have to work today, and I’m not gunna lie…I’m a bit bitter! You see, yours truly doesn’t usually work on Fridays. 😉 And I have my heart set on trying to make yogurt in my CROCK POT ASAP! It’ll have to wait til the weekend…. 😀
TGIF,
Thanks for sharing this – I’ve been looking for just a basic granola recipe.
I say the standard breakfast, lunch, and dinner, but my grandparents (who are Pennsylvania Dutch) always say “supper.”
Dinner! My grandma used to say supper thought. ๐
I see no near future of using anything heavier than the 5-lb weights for the shred right now… eek! The thought scares me a little! (although I know there are some circuits I could go a little heavier, there are still a few that kick my butt!)
Alot of people in Missouri are the same as Oklahoma- it’s breakfast, dinner, and supper. My parents switch out dinner and supper to mean the same thing – so it drives me nuts. I don’t use the word “supper” at all just for that reason… lol
Great job with the running!
I have always said “dinner.” And when I hear someone say “supper” I think of the dinner meal.
We’ve always said “dinner”
I can see my husband eating an entire pizza too ๐
I kind of go back and forth between dinner and supper, but lunch is always lunch!
Granola and yogurt is such a good combo ๐
I say breakfast, lunch, and dinner. However, my Grammy says breakfast, dinner, and supper–and she took care of us a lot so sometimes that slips out–but not often!
Great job on the running! I say dinner ๐
I’m impressed with your running total. Nice job! I took my first run in a London park yesterday. Despite still having jet lag, it felt great! Ever get that dog running with ya?
I feel like the title of your post describes me, only instead of run it should be “shovel down quick dinner before bed.” Oh, and my husband totally rebels with eating when I’m not home. I’ll get back from a trip and he’ll have subsisted solely on takeout. Guys.
I say dinner ๐ supper is kind of a southern word I think. Nice job with the mileage! That’s about what mine looks like right now too and I’m just working on consistency and increasing slowly! ๐
Looks like you are having fun with the camera – fancy pics ;). Why can’t I find BB on iTunes?! I’ve been waiting for a new season. I don’t know if I’d say love, but I really like that show. I usually say dinner, but sometimes interchange it with supper. Lunch is always lunch though.
Have a good Friday – I really didn’t want to be at work today either. Went pretty fast though.
Yogurt in crock pot?!! I must know about this!
When I was growing up we interchanged the word “dinner” and “supper” but now as an adult I rarely say supper and always say dinner. Interesting though…it makes me think about what other regional dialects we all have.
I am start running, too. My husband take us (the whole family) to run in the university everyday start form tomorow. I’m so excited.
Ummm I love classic simple granola recipe.
We say “Dinner” ๐
I’ve always said dinner. Miss Lily is so cute!
Sorry you have to work today ๐ At least you have the weekend coming up. I too gotta add nuts, flax etc. to granola otherwise it makes me sick (not enough slow burn fuel) xxoo
Most importantly, what kind of wings did Mr Prevention get at BWW??
Sweet Lily picture!!!!!!!!! ๐ Mr. Prevention reminds me of Andrew. He can put lots of food away too and yet his weight NEVER changes. Sigh. If I ate a large pizza one night, I wouldn’t be able to get one leg in my jeans the next day. Ooooooh well. ๐
Awww Lily is so cute!!!!!! I always say dinner.
I always say Dinner. And yea my husband can eat like that too and then go run a single mile and wake up the next morning and seem to have lost weight. So unfair! ๐ Love your picture of Lily. That’s exactly what Bella’s doing right now.
Yogurt in the crockpot?! Please share b/c I’m super excited about that prospect….I heart my crock pot ๐
i say dinner!! Supper reminds me of a ladies supper club.. i dk why
YOU DA RUNNIN MACHINE!! get it gurrrrl!
The granola sounds great. I still haven’t made granola. It’s on my “make list.”
We always say “dinner.”
Sorry you have to work today. Hope the day will go by quickly!
Have a great weekend!
That’s not weenie. That’s good runnin’!
The one and only time I tried making granola it was a total failure. This recipe looks great, maybe I’ll have to try again.
I’m a dinner girl. ๐
LOL, I’m often bitter about working. Right now, I wish that I were doing the Lily thing — completely with comfy accommodations.
Answer: dinner…
Hey lady! It’s been a little while, since I checked in, but the move was a tad crazy! Anywho, just caught up on your blog–and it’s filled with amazing posts, as always! And of course some laughter! I was dying when you mentioned the whole pizza! It never ceases to amaze me how much some guys can eat! Go you on the running and thanks so much for sharing the granola recipe! Lastly, I usually say dinner ๐
Consistency is the way to accomplish goals! You are doing great…and the mileage is certainly impressive to me. ๐
I had to laugh at Mr. Prevention. My husband does the same type of stuff when I’m not there to cook for him. I wish I could have his metabolism.
I use 5 pounders for the 30 day shred, and sometimes have to take breaks! Jillian is one tough cookie
Haha, Stephen has eaten many a whole pizza in my presence!! I love pizza, but the idea of eating the whole thing totally grosses me out. How do the men do it?
Haha, Stephen has eaten an entire pizza…in my presence! I love pizza, but eating the whole thing sounds highly disgusting. How do the men do it??
Dinner! My husband often eats like that when I’m not around also.
The Shred is HARD!! I did level 1 last night – why I even attempted it in this heat is beyond me – and I thought I was going to die! I did it once with 7 pound weights instead of 5 – way too hard! ๐
I’m a dinner girl all the way!
What is with guys and their ability to eat whatever whenever and not gain weight. Seriously unfair. Not that I’d want to eat a Little Caesar’s pizza though. I would settle for a slice of cheesecake factory cheesecake though…
That granola looks delicious! Fantastic photo!
ugh, Mark and Nick really are going to get along well. I mean seriously, Nick had a large bowl of ice cream last night, potato chips, an English muffin with tons of peanut butter, and half of a chocolate chip cookie, then Hershey’s chocolate. This was all AFTER dinner, while I had my 2 tiny scoops of ice cream, and a rice cake lol. Men.
I think it sounds like your running is going very well! Not weenie stuff to me, at all. Good for you!
NOOO i am so sad that they were dry!!!! Mine werent dry at all!! I had the full fat ground turkey tho, maybe that was why?
Awesome workouts this week! That’s way more than I did. You are back on track! I’m a Midwest girl. Breakfast, lunch, dinner in my house. Oh and it’s pop to me. Not soda ๐
What yummy granola!
I used to eat whole orders of LC’s bread sticks before swim meets in high school – haha, and I was a toothpick from all the swimming, wish I could still do that ๐
I think that’s a great job on running! Sadly, I haven’t gone running in 3 weeks… unless you count last week when I fell off the treadmill with only a mile down and badly sprained my rotator cuff. Now I’m “recovering”, aka doing nothing. I need to start getting back into an exercise routine!
