Family Friday (vol. 112): Summer PTO

I’m using a lot of Paid Time Off (PTO) in the next 6 weeks or so. As my boss pointed out yesterday, I live for summer. I then proceeded to tell him about various boat rental options and “secret” beaches to anchor at, piecing together the perfect day with his grandkids. I don’t have any real plans for my PTO (there will a boat rental day!), but of course it involves the sun and exercise. I was sure to schedule some of my time when the girls would be in daycare so that I could do those things that *I* want to do 😉 Rather than taking several consecutive days off work, I scheduled off afternoons or 1-2 days a week so that I can keep up with my workload. Personally, I find it very stressful to come back to work after being gone, needing to spend the next few weeks just catching up. Not my style!

The pool we go to opened for the summer (!) and the after school babysitter has been taking the girls most days. They LOVE it! But THEIR HAIR IS LITERALLY GREEN. I’ve tried several different chlorine/swim shampoos (holy $$), and no improvement. Please tell me there’s a little homemade concoction I can whip up!

Our county in Michigan continues to report very few (often zero) new COVID-19 cases. I hope this trend continues, of course. There’s mention now of hockey resuming in less than 2 weeks, a dance recital in August (I picked up Piper’s costume this week and it is SO cute!), and perhaps in-class education come September. I even got a massage yesterday! Too bad it was probably the worst one I’ve ever had. That said, a bad massage is probably like a bad cookie — it’s still pretty good! So, #notcomplaining

Work has been SO busy. I’m seeing more patients and I really enjoy that. It makes for busy days, but I have always loved the mix of management and patient care. And busy days = days that fly by, so I’m all for it. Especially when it’s gorgeous out and I mostly just want to be at the beach or pool 🙂

My birthday is next week and other than being off work and having my first hair appointment in many, many months, I have no plans. I’ll do a live Peloton ride and hope to get a shoutout like I did last year. Of course Peloton has exploded since that time so I’m not expecting it, but it’d be awesome. 🙂 I’m sure the beach and the pool with dinner out will be in the afternoon and evening plans, assuming the weather cooperates.

Currently watching: Waco on Netflix. It’s good, not amazing. We just finished Outer Banks on Netflix and really liked that. But, it looks like season 2 will have a release LATE in 2021. Ugh. After Waco, I’m thinking about starting Game of Thrones. I need a good binge, none of this 1 season stuff!

Currently reading: The One by John Marrs which is for book club (about finding “the one” who you’re genetically meant to be with). I last read Things You Save in a Fire by Katherine Center (loved it, palate cleanser for sure), Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng (liked it a lot, but maybe a bit over-rated), and The Grace Year by Kim Liggett (interesting Hunger Games-like book worth reading).

Favorite Dinner: This Mongolian Chicken. It was so easy and SO good!

I took Shea to the doctor this afternoon after a pretty fierce and angry, clearly infected, spot on her leg. It seemed to come out of nowhere and after sending a picture to my bestie who happens to be an RN, she encouraged the doctor visit. After 40 minutes of sobbing and fear to the core, we dropped off a wound sample and she is being treated for a MRSA infection. Glad we got that in before the weekend rolled in.

Zero weekend plans other than date night tomorrow. I got a text from our new babysitter yesterday that said, “Hey, just wanted to let you know I get my license tomorrow, so I won’t need a ride home!” Now I can have that glass of wine or a nice cold beer with dinner! 😉

Be well,

If you haven’t already, checkout Lenox Hill on Netflix. Good doctor documentary.
