Family Friday (vol. 120): We Got This!

Much has happened to those in my life that leaves me feeling fortunate. People are going through a lot right now and as someone not currently in one of those seasons, I’m left feeling as though I need to fully embrace all that’s going good in life right now.

Sure, listening to my new favorite podcast, The Daily, is nothing short of SCARY some days…but I’m feeling more connected to current day than in the past. And goodness gracious, there’s plenty going on in the world. I tune in while getting ready in the morning, any short car rides where I’m alone, and wrap up in the shower at night.

Our local COVID numbers are better than expected and much better than many places in the world and in the US, dodging the post-holiday surge that was expected. As vaccine rollout continues and having received my first dose last week, I’m feeling quite hopeful about life after the pandemic. We’re even heading to Florida next month to visit some friends. The girls are both in school and things are back to…normal.

I finished All The Things We Cannot Say by Kelly Rimmer a few nights ago. I stayed up way too late, flying through the pages, bawling my eyes out. If you’re looking for an easy to read historical fiction novel and a great love story – read this book. 5 stars, for sure! The Libby app (Kindle books through local libraries) recently delivered 28 Summers by Elin Hilderbrand and I’m really enjoying it so far.

At work, I’ve been capitalizing on the mild winter and walking during lunch. Most days I’m able to get in 1.5-2 miles and it really helps to get some fresh air and steps in mid-day. I need to keep it up! I take my kindle with me and get in some pages, too. How’s that for productivity?

Mark recently purchased a small, 5 gallon fish tank. We now have 2 glo danios and 7 TINY shrimp. He started reading to me in bed last night how these danios are genetically modified not to be blue (??). The little shrimp are…weird looking. My family room is now a whole lot brighter and louder with the water filter running at all times.

We’ve got actual plans this weekend. Tomorrow evening, Mark rented an igloo at a local brewery. We’ll take Zingo, the new game the girls got for Christmas, and just…relax. Not in our house and for me, not at work. The only 2 places I’ve been in quite some time.

Tomorrow night I’m also planning a “date night in” for Mark and I. I’ve got a few new craft beers we’re going to sample and I’m making wedge salads, Jalapeno Popper Mac and Cheese, and Peanut Butter Pie. We’re going to make a 10-year bucket list and hot tub. If you’re reading this but plan to listen in on our February 7th episode where Gina and I share our date nights in, act surprised. Gina’s night looked fun, so at least hers will be a surprise 😉 Saturday, we’re heading to Chicago for a tiny, COVID-safe-ish birthday party (my parents and the other grandparents only) for my niece who is turning 2! I can’t hardly believe it! The last time we saw her, a few weeks ago, my girls swept her away into their bedrooms and all we heard was laughing for a long, long time. THEN, Saturday night we rented a hotel room turned into a private dining suite at a local hotel-restaurant. They redesigned several of their rooms into private dining rooms (vs. hotel rooms) for a COVID-safe dining option. It’s…something! Indoor dining in Michigan isn’t open yet and I love this option – so, so fun!

We’re loving Kingdom on Netflix (there’s 2 shows with the same name, but I’m referencing the one with MMA fighters) and Animal Kingdom on Amazon.

Shea has lost a second tooth. Piper is loving puzzles. She’s completing 50 and 100 piece puzzles by herself which is so fun to see. They’re both OBSESSED with rock-paper-scissors, especially Shea. The girls ask a lot about the COVID vaccine and both are ready to go, asking when they can get the shot so they can play with friends and not wear masks. So sweet. But, we’re a ways off and I just ordered MORE kids’ masks from Old Navy. They seem to disappear, one every day it seems!

I volunteered to work a community COVID vaccine clinic and I’m hoping I’m called! I am hopeful for our post-pandemic future, no doubt!

Be well,

Loved 28 Summers! The brewery/dining options sounds fun, want to check them out. One day closer to spring!
