Shea started crawling about 2 weeks ago and it’s amazing how much faster she has gotten in that time (even though I thought those cute little dresses would certainly slow her down!). Of course she has an affinity for finding everything dangerous and/or fragile in any given room. It’s as if she’s quite literally drawn to electrical outlets, DVD players, computer wires, and anything small that would qualify as a choking hazard. Mr. Prevention comes down this morning and throws a magazine article on the kitchen island saying, “Did you know those dishwasher tablets could actually KILL her if she were to eat one? Scary.”

I wish I’d have listened to all the forewarning to baby proof the home before the baby is actually mobile. Imagine that!

She’s not only mobile, but she’s also entering the stage where she’s given something, or picks it up, and immediately it is tossed to the ground. I may be canceling my gym membership before this phase is through. It’s exhausting!

Green bean? To the floor it goes.

Spoon? To the floor, it joins the green bean.

Puffs or Cherrios? She tries to shove 12 in her mouth at a time, only to have most of them stick to her face or fall on the floor.

Just as sadly, the dog couldn’t care less about eating the discarded food from the baby.

As people promised, entertaining or feeding a 10 month old while I make dinner is challenging. If I’m not picking up after her every move, I’m stepping over her, or relocating her from one area of the first floor to the next. She sees the pantry doors open, and she’s there to explore within a matter of seconds. “We’ll see how much you cook once she’s actually moving!” people would warn me.

Quick and easy meals are an absolute must with her around!

Luckily, fish cooks quickly and provides a blank slate for bold flavors like in this Cajun delight. Prepped in minutes and packed with some heat, dinner can be ready in no time.

Serves: 4 servings (4 oz each)
  • 2 Tbsp olive oil
  • 1 lemon, juiced
  • 1 Tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • ¾ tsp garlic powder
  • ¾ tsp onion powder
  • ¾ tsp dried oregano
  • ¾ tsp dried thyme
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp ground black pepper
  • ¼ tsp cayenne
  • 1 lb tilapia filets
  1. Preheat broiler to 550 degrees F and line a large, rimmed sheet pan with aluminum foil; mist with olive oil.
  2. In a shallow dish combine: oil, lemon juice, cornstarch, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, oregano, thyme, salt, pepper and cayenne; whisk to combine.
  3. Dip the tilapia filets into the Cajun mixture. Place fish onto prepared pan.
  4. Broil the tilapia for 7-9 minutes or until fish is cooked through and flakes easily.

    FYI, I am on my computer, and this recipe keeps loading as the mobile version of the site. When I go to the home page it’s back to the normal PC version.

    Ah, once they go mobile you are screwed! I don’t think I took Hannah to a restaurant until she was 3 1/2 because all she wanted to do was walk around the restaurant and I’d end up bagging up my dinner before even touching it.
